Year 1 News

From Karen, Year 1 teacher

Directional language

Students are learning about  directional language to describe the location. They engaged in a range of activities, such as taking a teddy counter into the school yard, placing it at different locations and writing a sentence describing where it is. They have also used their problem solving skills when programming a route for the Beebots to follow a pre-designed map. Some of the maps that the Beebots need to follow were quite challenging, however the students has shown resilience during the productive struggle, and were very happy once they solve the challenges for themselves.

Onomatopoeia

Students are learning to engage their readers in their writing by using onomatopoeia. They have had a lot of fun learning to say the word “onomatopoeia”, and practising different sentences starting with a sound word.
