STUDENT ACTIVITIES
Prep Alphabet Dress-Up Day
Last Friday the 31st of May, our adorable little preppies had their Alphabet Dress-Up Day. Students were able to choose a letter and correlate a costume beginning with that letter. We had D for Doctors, S for Spiders, B for Bunnies and much much more. Thank you to our parents for helping with the gorgeous costumes, and thank you Ms Robertson, Ms Adams, Ms Stephenson and Ms Hercus for organising this day that the preps enjoyed so much!
Prep Buddies... & LEGO!
As part of our Prep Inquiry, we have been working with our buddies to build a replica of our local community, Pakington Street, using LEGO! What a fabulous hands on learning activity for our students!
Debating - Chilwell Vs Geelong Grammar
Last Wednesday the 29th of May, our Chilwell debaters welcomed Geelong Grammar to Chilwell Primary School for the first round of the 2024 Barwon Junior Debating Competition. This was a double header, as both schools have two teams, with Chilwell A up against Grammar A first, followed by Chilwell B vs Grammar B. The topic was That University Education Should Be Free.
Chilwell A (Ari 1st speaker, Caitlin 2nd speaker, Sean 3rd speaker and Monica) argued for the affirmative, while Chilwell B (Leo 1st speaker, Chase 2nd speaker, Eva 3rd speaker and Aairah) argued for the negative. They were both high-quality debates, and the adjudicator commented on how impressed she was by the standard of debating so early in the competition.
In the end, Chilwell A came away with the win against Grammar A and Ari was awarded best speaker, with Chilwell B narrowly losing to Grammar B.
Congratulations to all of our debaters on a successful first round. Debating involves a lot of extra effort, but also plenty of reward, with improved speaking, organisational, writing, research and teamwork skills. We are looking forward to round two in a few weeks.
