The VCE VET Sport and Recreation classes have been working extremely hard this semester completing practical components of their course and develop a range of leadership skills in the process.
Our Unit 1&2 students have been rigorously developing their understanding and skills in conditioning for sports through a structured program that included assessing baseline fitness levels to tailor individual training programs, developing training regimens aimed at achieving specific fitness goals, diligently following their training programs, demonstrating commitment and perseverance and conducting follow-up fitness tests to evaluate improvements and determine if their fitness objectives were met.
In addition to their personal development, our students have also been engaging in community service by collaborating with Warrandyte Primary School. They have taken on the roles of officials for the primary school's interschool soccer and AFL competitions. This initiative has provided our students with valuable officiating experience and the opportunity to refine their leadership skills.
We are delighted to share that the feedback from Warrandyte Primary School has been overwhelmingly positive, commending our students for their professionalism, dedication, and exemplary conduct. We extend our congratulations to all participating students for their hard work and achievements. Their efforts not only advance their personal fitness goals but also contribute significantly to the community. In addition six students also took on the challenge of helping grade 5 and 6 students from Warrandyte Primary School during their Hoop Time Competition. The students displayed exceptional leadership skills as they coached, managed, and scored for three teams, ensuring a fun-filled and successful day for everyone involved. Congratulations Ryan, Toby, Teagan, Lilly, Darcy and Zoe on your efforts and representing the school and demonstrating our schools core values.
We are pleased to report on the commendable efforts and achievements of our Unit 3&4 students as they honed their coaching skills with foundation-level participants. Throughout the term our students have been dedicatedly teaching grade 2, 3, and 4 students from Warrandyte Primary School the essential kicking skills in Soccer and AFL. This endeavour is a crucial assessment for our Unit 3&4 students, and their hard work has provided impressive results. Throughout this assessment students collaborated in groups to meticulously plan their coaching sessions, ensuring a structured and engaging learning experience for the younger participants, demonstrated excellent organizational skills, efficiently managed the necessary equipment for each session and with enthusiasm and professionalism, they conducted their coaching sessions, effectively imparting skills and knowledge and actively sought and incorporated feedback continuously refining their coaching techniques, enhancing their ability to teach and connect with the younger students. It has been truly inspiring to witness the growth and confidence of our Unit 3&4 students as they navigated this process. Their ability to engage and instruct the primary school students has been exceptional, showcasing their development as capable and confident coaches. They have not only excelled in their coaching roles but also made significant contributions to the development of the younger students. Some of the primary school students said:
“They were very helpful and we learnt a lot from them.”
“They were excellent role models and they made it fun.”
“I liked how we learnt something new.”
“I enjoyed it because we got to meet new older kids, and I had fun.”
“It was awesome!”
The feedback from the primary school teachers was phenomenal – they were extremely impressed by the professionalism and dedication of our high school students and even took away some new skills from the students.
Their commitment to excellence was evident, and they should take great pride in their accomplishments.
