VCE PE Excursion to Deakin University

On June 20th the VCE PE class participated in their follow up session at the number one ranked Sport Science University in the world. Student's participated in a range of biomechanical activities that directly relate to the VCE PE content.  In the picture above we have Jacob Close participating in a standing jump on one of the force platforms which measure how much force he created in both his take off and landing.

Overall, the 2 lab sessions were very informative and have given the VCE PE students a great insight into where PE can lead to in tertiary education. It has been a very busy term in the sports department with multiple teams representing the school in a range of different sports. At all events students have strived for success and given their absolute best.

Year 9/10 Active Wellness Walk

In Term 2, the Year 9 and 10 Active Wellness students began their walking unit in which they are exploring the local surrounds of Warrandyte High School by foot. We started off by getting a nice warm drink from Beasley's Nursery and then walked up the old car racing track near Parkway Place Lake before heading back to WHS in glorious autumn sunshine.

Girls AFL and Boys Netball

A big day for Warrandyte High School with 80 students participating in the interschool girls AFL and boys Netball competitions. Warrandyte entered a junior girls AFL team (who ended up coming runners up) and a combined intermediate and senior team. With the majority of these students in year 9&10 playing against other year 11&12 students they did a fantastic job. All students played their absolute best and never gave up. At the boys Netball there was a total of 7 teams (1 junior, 4 intermediate and 2 senior). The day was very busy however was great to see the students developing their skills with some teams playing with reduced numbers. The support and encouragement of each team was terrific. All students involved in the days sporting competition should be very proud of themselves and how they represented the school.

Senior Basketball and Soccer

A great day out for our senior basketball and soccer teams. The girls basketball whilst initially wanted to play just for some fun ended up playing against the other schools competitive teams. Winning 2 of their 3 games they finished 2nd in their pool to play off for 3rd and 4th. Both teams were exhausted after some tight games and were happy to play a shortened friendly game with the girls finishing 4th overall. It was so great to see them working so well together and competing in their final interschool basketball competition. The boys team entered the B competition with no subs for the day. Every game they improved and had lots of fun against the other schools. Their sportsmanship was amazing. A big thank you to Jayden who was unable to play due to injury however when short on referees committed himself to helping out demonstrating excellent leadership skills.

The soccer boys also had a great day out and worked tirelessly as they had no subs. In the first game they went down 1-3 however it was a very tight contest with 2 of the other team goals being miraculous. In the 2nd game they won playing some great team soccer with amazing coaching from Mr Sunjo. In their third and final game they played the eventual winners of the day. Whilst not winning this game Warrandyte  pushed them to a final score of 3-4 and played some of their best soccer.

All students should be extremely proud of their efforts, sportsmanship and the way they represented the school. It really was a great day out with a fantastic group of students.

Senior Boys AFL and Girls Netball

Tuesday 7th May marked the final interschool sports day for our seniors. The injury ravaged boys AFL team took to the field with 15 players ready for some hard footy. The boys worked solidly as a team in all 3 games continually giving their best. Whilst they didn’t come away with the win they held their heads high in all games and were proud and united as they walked off the field for the last time for Warrandyte High School.

The girl's netball team was also struck by injury and illness and took to the competition with 7 players. With no subs the girls worked extremely well together determining key positions and making changes as required. Even with only 7 players the girls showed the other schools what Warrandyte is all about - strength and determination. They had a great day out finishing the day undefeated in the B competition.

I thank the year 12s who have given many years of service and represented Warrandyte High School to the highest standard for the past 6 years. It has been a pleasure to watch these students develop over the years. Warrandyte High School wishes them all the very best in all their sporting endeavours going forward.

Intermediate Soccer, Netball, AFL and Badminton

It was a very busy day for the intermediates with 75 eager students participating in Soccer, AFL, Netball and for many the first-time competitive Badminton. It was fantastic to see student coming together and competing in new sports. The level of encouragement and sportsmanship was fabulous to see. All teams played their absolute best with the intermediate AFL team going down in the grand final. Throughout the day they played some very unselfish and team orientated football winning all their group games comfortably before going down in the final. A special thank you to Adam Kamphius and Montie Isaacs of year 8 who stood up and challenged themselves playing up in the intermediate competition. This enabled the intermediates to field a team of 18 players with both students fitting into the team extremely well. Considering across all sports multiple teams played with no subs all students showed determination and grit never giving up. It was also clear to see at all sports that many of our students have strong leadership skills as they directed play, communicated clearly with all, led from the front and encouraged all team members for the entire day. Congratulations to all students who represented Warrandyte High demonstrating respect to each other and all other competitors, pride and excellence.

Division Cross Country

Congratulations to the 16 incredible students who represented Warrandyte at the divisional cross country. We witnessed some spectacular performances, with a special shoutout to Rafael Martini, who achieved an impressive 2nd place in the 20-year-old male 5km event.

But the excitement doesn’t stop there! We are thrilled to announce that 11 of our talented athletes advanced to the regional finals. Your dedication, hard work, and team spirit have

truly shone through.

Regional Cross Country

The 11 students who qualified for regional cross country had a day they'll never forget! Everyone gave it their all and achieved amazing results. A special shoutout to Atalia, Raf, and Charlie for their outstanding performances and for representing Warrandyte High School in their final cross-country meet.

Year 8 Interschool Netball & Soccer

On Tuesday 5th June it was time for the year 8 students to show their skills at the interschool sport Netball and Soccer competition. The 2 netball teams gave their best all day, showing great enthusiasm and sportsmanship, as well as improving their skills with each game. The A team made it to the semi finals, winning 5 of their 6 games and only missing out on the grand final due to percentages. A fantastic effort! A special thanks to Demi, Charlotte and Sarah who stepped up demonstrating amazing leadership and support on the day. It is so great to see students taking on leadership roles and assisting other students.

At soccer the boys had some great games with some valiant draws. Both draws were come-from-behind clutch goals to draw level at the death. Adam Kamphuis shined in his goalkeeping role, ensuring our goal differential was relatively even throughout the day. James Litchfield also impressed with his communication & striking. The whole team played well & showed excellent sportsmanship.

Congratulations to all year 8 students involved in the day.

Year 7 interschool netball & Soccer

The inter-school netball tournament was a thrilling experience for our team of 11 year 7 girls. They demonstrated remarkable teamwork and skill improvement, winning every match and ultimately facing Ashwood High School in the grand final. The girls delivered a stellar performance, winning with an impressive score of 19-0. It was exciting to witness many new players shine on the court.

It was also an incredible day of sportsmanship and teamwork at the interschool soccer round robin. 2 Year 7 teams gave it their all, showing real grit and determination against tough competition. It was heartwarming to witness their growth and improvement throughout the day. A huge congratulations to all the Year 7 students for their outstanding effort and achievements on the netball court and soccer field.
