REACH Programs
On 1st May 2024, our Year 7 and 8 students had the opportunity to work with facilitators with REACH to participate in the CONNECTION program. It was a journey of self-discovery and allowed our students to think about themselves and their interactions with their peers at WHS.
Likewise, on Friday the 24th of May our Year 9's had the opportunity to work with REACH in a program called PEER DYNAMICS. This program encouraged student connection through confidence and kindness, gave an opportunity for students to reconnect, and inspired all to accept difference.
The wellbeing team commend the students on their participation in the program and working alongside with the REACH facilitators during these sessions. It is always amazing how our students step up and take on a different challenge and their ability to demonstrate confidence and bravery in front of their peer groups. Our students were able to leave the session with a different way of thinking about their connection with other students at WHS.
We had the opportunity to speak to a few of the students to gain some positive feedback from their attendance. Each student we spoke with really appreciated the open honesty and support from their peers. It provided our students with more knowledge about their peers and a realisation that others both at school and outside of school face issues as well. We are so proud of our student's showing resilience and courage to turn up to school when things are tough.
Therapy Dog in Training
I wanted to take the opportunity in this edition to introduce a new member of the well-being team. Meet Clancy!!
Clancy is a Mini Cavoodle Puppy who has commenced his journey to becoming a well-being/therapy dog at school. Over the remainder of this year, Clancy will be attending school 3 days a week to familiarise himself with the school environment. He already has had opportunities to meet students, staff and school guests. So if you see him around, he is very open to pats and belly rubs.
Recess Basketball Tournament
Mr. Sinn and Jake from Wellbeing ran a 2v2 basketball tournament to promote health and wellbeing at Warrandyte High School. This event ran over the course of several weeks where students of all year levels competed for the crown of basketball champions. Congratulations to all who competed and the cheerleaders who inspired the players!
An extension of congratulations to the winners of the competition Mason Scott-Bommert and Jacob Habel who each played fantastically!
