Woodlands Cross Country Finals - Wednesday, June 5th 2024
We are excited to share the results from the recent Cross Country event held at Kilmore Race Track on Wednesday, June 5th. Our Woodlands finalists: Taylah T., Sally Rose H., Luke T., and Ava V.— (Absent- Jude S &Makayla. M) represented our school with outstanding determination and sportsmanship.
Each of these students competed in their respective age groups and showcased their dedication, perseverance, and athletic prowess.
Here are some highlights:
Taylah T: Excelled in maintaining a consistent speed throughout the race finished a respectable 21st in the overall competition
Sally Rose H: Was unable to finish but was a fierce competitor right up to the end of her race campaign
Luke T: Displayed remarkable endurance and competitive spirit and pushed through the pain barrier to finish 7th and qualify for the Northern Metro Region Finals
Ava V: Our youngest star in the SoGS Cross Country Team, delivered a standout performance, showcasing her dedication and strength and also qualifying for the first time in the Northern Metro Region.
We are extremely proud of how each of these students performed, not only in terms of their athletic achievements but also in how they represented our school with pride and integrity. Their efforts are a testament to their hard work, and we congratulate them on their exceptional performances.
We would also like to extend our gratitude to the parents and extended families who supported and encouraged our runners throughout their race day. Your support plays a crucial role in our students' success.
Before signing off there was an incident I would like to share with you that involved one of our students and a student from another school competing in the same race. Unfortunately during the race, one of our student's shoes came off on the first lap and they were devastated that they could not recover in time to finish the race and qualify for the next stage. Amazingly, another student from an entirely different school took it upon herself to walk with our student to the finish line and keep her company.
I am beyond words to express how that made me feel when they both came across the finish line and seeing the other student not concerned that they were not going to qualify for the round but to make sure that her fellow competitor was safe and back with her family. This student was happy to walk back with her sacrificing any chance of herself finishing in a position to qualify. What an amazing, selfless gesture!
The above story is a wonderful example of selfless service and humanity that we far too often forget about when in a competitive environment. We should all take a leaf out of this wonderful child's example.
Again and finally, congratulations again to Jude, Makayla, Taylah, Sally Rose, Luke, and Ava! We look forward to more great achievements in the future!
