Year 5 News

Dylan:

Hello everyone, we are here to talk about the year 5 camp at Sovereign Hill. My name is Dylan, this is James and this is Andreas. Camp was a lot of fun and there is so much to talk about. For 3 days and 2 nights, most year 5s attended the camp and since there were so many of us, we were split into 3 groups, A1, A2, B1, and B2.

James:

Hi everyone, my name is James and I will be talking about all the activities we did and where we went. On the first day we went on a tour around the camp. We saw many different shops, the goldfields and mining areas such as the ‘Red mine Hill’. Speaking of mining, we went 33m meters down below into the mines, where miners would find gold. We were also lucky enough to eat our breakfast, lunch and dinner at New York Bakery, the food was delicious. There was also a tower that overlooked Ballarat, we saw how lollies were made… and yes we got to try some freshly made raspberry drops. Finally, we attended two shows. The first night's show called “The Pantomime” was held in a theatre with 3 live performers, and the second show called “Aura Light Show” was held in three different locations. It's fair to say that you will always be entertained if you ever visit Sovereign Hill.

Andreas:

Hi everyone, my name is Andreas and I will tell you guys about my favourite part of camp. My favourite part of camp was going underground in the tram because there was lots to explore underground and it was interesting how miners tried to find gold in the 1850s. Like James said, we went 33 meters down. We experienced how cold it gets as you go lower and lower and we also saw how bad the conditions were for the miners when they had to search for gold.

Dylan:

Taking responsibility was a hard thing on paper but for all year 5s was an easy job to do. When we got there, we were fast to get into our groups and listen to the teachers. There was a lot of excitement in the groups but it did take a bit of a hit on us when we felt a bit homesick but we were still resilient and kept on going.

Andreas:

Being away from family can make you homesick but it also teaches you independence. It was great spending time with friends in another setting other than school. It is a unique experience and the best part is telling our family about our adventure and experience.

Dylan:

Lastly, we would like to thank the teachers for setting up our camp. If it wasn’t for all the teachers, I don’t think we would've been able to say all the great things about our camp. I don’t even think we said everything and even if we did, we would be here all day. Thank you for listening.
