Principal Team's Message

Our Assistant Principals reflect on Term two so far

As we reach the end of Term 2, we’d like to take this opportunity to wish students, their families, and staff a restful break over the holidays. There is much to celebrate and be proud of this term, and we look forward to the exciting events planned for Term 3.

Uniform

A massive thank you to all students who consistently and proudly wear their school uniform correctly. We would also like to acknowledge that this is often a result of the many wonderful parents and carers who support us in our implementation of the school dress code by being organised with the purchase of uniform, prompts the night before school, and firm and fair reminders about how to wear the uniform correctly. Being in full uniform sends some great messages about readiness to learn, respect for the school and oneself, child safety and starting the day on a positive note.

The cooler months have seen a small increase in the number of students wearing non-uniform items including non-school black track pants and hoodies. Hoodies and non-school track pants are not permitted and where possible will be confiscated and/or replaced by our limited spare uniform supplies. This may be coupled with a consequence.

At the end of 2023, the School Council endorsed an additional layer of clothing that can be worn with both the academic uniform and the PE uniform. We strongly suggest that parents and carers purchase the soft-shell jacket. We ask that students only come to school wearing the correct uniform. This avoids unnecessary negative interactions that can sour relationships and shift the focus away from the positive work to be done.

The College will continue to implement the uniform dress code that has been communicated frequently and to all parents, carers and students upon enrolment.

Year 7 and 10 Immunisations

A reminder that Year 7 and 10 Immunisations are scheduled for Friday 19 July. You must provide consent on the Hume City Council Vax App link provided. Students will be permitted to wear sport uniforms on this day.

Semester One Exams

Students in Year 10 and 11 completed their semester exams in Weeks 7-8. We would like to take this opportunity to commend all the students for their attendance at the exams, and for their endeavour in completing them. As Semester Two starts, we encourage students to reflect upon their learning from Semester One and review their semester reports carefully, to set themselves goals for the remainder of the year.

Work Experience

The Yr 10 Work Experience program was a highlight of the last few weeks; students returned to school excited and enthused by the opportunities provided to them during their placements. Thank you to Jane Cheeseman for her leadership of the program, and to all staff who visited students at their workplace and shared feedback on the successes.

E-Scooters

We have found that a very small number of students have adopted riding E scooters to school. Please note that E – Scooter riders must follow these rules as noted in the Vic Roads road rules. Notably, E scooter riders:

  • Must be 16 years and older
  • Always wear a helmet
  • Cannot carry a passenger

These rules, along with the rule outlined in the link below are enforced by Victoria Police.

E-scooters in Victoria : VicRoads

It is noted that in the link that rules relating to E -Scooters are likely to be updated with permanent regulations later this year.

Importantly, Sunbury College will

  • Not permit students to ride to and from school on an E scooter where they are under the age of 16.
  • Not allow students to ride their E- Scooter within the grounds. The E Scooter should be walked to as suitable location outside of the school grounds before riding.

As with bikes and regular scooters, any damage or loss of equipment is not the responsibility of the school.

Thanks for your support in keeping our kids safe.

VCE and VCE VM Information Night

It was wonderful to see all of our Year 10 students, parents, and carers at the VCE and VCE VM Information night on Wednesday. Over the next few months, Year 10 students will be making important choices related to their future pathways. Both students and families should be more informed of the options and choices available at Sunbury College. We provide a structured process to provide the necessary support and advice to enable everyone to make these decisions with confidence.

Throughout the evening our Senior School team covered the following:

- Senior years support and programs

- Transitioning into the final years of schooling

- The structure and requirements of the VCE and VCE VM

- Careers and pathways planning- Subject selection for 2025
