Principal's Message
A message from our principal Craig O'Bree
Dear parents, carers, students, and staff,
I am delighted to share with you the wonderful news of our students' achievements this past term. It has been a remarkable journey of growth, learning, and accomplishments for each of them.
I want to thank the many parents and carers who were in attendance at our Principal’s Awards on Wednesday 26 June. The Principal’s Awards recognise students who have consistently maintained a very high standard of work habits across their subjects. High work habits are a strong indicator that students are learning to the best of their ability and will have success in their chosen academic pathways.
Congratulations to our Year 10 students who recently attended work experience from Monday 3 June to Friday 14 June, and developed knowledge and skills that will have a positive impact on their experiences in and outside of school. I want to share my appreciation of our local community who continually support our Year 10 work experience program. We had over 180 Year 10 students who went out to local businesses, and further afield. This included 22 students who undertook their work experience in our local Sunbury and Diggers Rest Primary Schools.
I would also like to share my congratulations to Austyn Edwards on being awarded the Hume City Council 2024 Environmental Stewardship Community Award. The Hume Community Awards are a recognition program designed to celebrate and honour individuals within the community who have made outstanding contributions. Austyn, who is now in Year 10 has been an active leader at Sunbury College over several years and prides himself in being there for students, and making sure he lends an ear and is a friendly face when students need someone to speak to. Austyn is currently the College’s Sustainability Captain.
We have many other students who throughout the term, have shown outstanding dedication to their studies, participation in extracurricular activities, and commitment to upholding our school values. Their enthusiasm and hard work have truly paid off, and we couldn't be prouder of their achievements.
I will be on long service leave for Term 3 to visit family in Canada and will be returning at the beginning of Term 4. I want to thank Fiona Scott-Young who will be the Acting Principal at this time, and Melissa Casha who will be Acting Assistant Principal. For Term 3 our Assistant Principals will continue to oversee the three sub schools, with Melissa Casha now overseeing Year 7 and 8, Becky Annetts: Year 9 and 10, and John Lane: Year 11 and 12.
Have a safe winter break with family and friends.
Best wishes
Craig O’Bree
