This term, we have launched literacy intervention programs aimed at increasing the progress and growth of students in Year 1-4.
Identified students in Year 1/2 are participating in Tier II phonic and spelling sessions outside of the classroom, 3 times per week with our interventionist, Emma Hill. This intervention utilises the same program as the core instructional program, UFLI Foundations. UFLI Foundations is an explicit and systematic phonics program that introduces students to the foundational reading skills necessary for proficient reading. It follows a carefully developed scope and sequence designed to ensure that students systematically acquire each skill needed and learn to apply each skill with automaticity and confidence.
Selected students in Year 3/4 are participating in an online intervention called Reading Doctor. Reading Doctor® Online is a scientifically based teaching tool designed to help readers improve their reading and spelling skills. The online program focuses on improving the crucial skill areas that have been found through research to be essential in becoming a fluent reader, such as decoding and segmenting for spelling. If you have concerns about your child's literacy development, please reach out the the classroom teacher.
The Victorian High-Ability Program (VHAP) is an enrichment program for Years 5-8 that addresses the needs of high-ability students to engage with challenging material in either English or Mathematics. The selection of students is conducted centrally by the department and is based on NAPLAN and teacher judgement data. Congratulations to all students who were selected for Term 2 and Term 3 placement.
