Principal Report

A report from Principal Tyson Smith

It has been a very busy few weeks at Aberfeldie with several excursions and events happening across the school. This week we are celebrating Reconciliation Week. The National Reconciliation Week theme for 2024, Now More Than Ever, is a reminder to all of us that no matter what, the fight for justice and the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will and must continue.

What has been happening at APS:

  • We have welcomed Smile Squad into the school who have started treating students for dental work at school. We have 150+ students registered for their free dental check up!
  • The Mother's Day stall was a huge success, raising $4470 for the school. A huge thank-you to all the parent volunteers who helped make the day such a big success.
  • We had a parent morning tea on 10th of May, it was so nice to see so many parents/carers there.
  • We celebrated Education Week with parent info sessions, open classrooms and a special thank-you to our Education Support staff who celebrated ES day as a part of Education Week.
  • The Sausage Food Theme Day was a huge success too. I was also lucky enough to participate and had one myself! Thanks so much to the parent helpers who put this event together.

School-Wide Positive Behaviour Award

Aberfeldie Primary School received a Bronze Award at the Western Melbourne Principal's Forum on 23rd May for outstanding initial implementation of the SWPBS initiative. We are thrilled to have received this award and would like to thank the whole Aberfeldie Primary School staff team who have worked so hard to implement this across the school.
