Visit from Author of "Pink", Lili Wilkinson
“Perfect people don’t exist and that’s why I like to make my characters flawed people who are learning to do the right thing…”
On February 11, Lili Wilkinson, author of “Pink”, our novel study for Term 1, visited the Year 10 students.
She generously shared her journey as an author, her writing process, and the inspiration behind her stories. Students were fascinated to learn that Lili’s own high school friends inspired some of the novel’s key characters. They also discovered how her personal experiences helped shape the plot, making the story feel even more real.
The students loved meeting Lili and diving into the history of “Pink”. They even had fun imagining a future film adaptation, debating who should play each character! It was an inspiring and engaging session that left everyone excited to continue exploring the novel.

Swimming Sports Carnival
On Friday, the 28th of February, Killester held its annual swimming carnival, organised by the student House Committee, where students from all year levels had the opportunity to compete in a friendly competition between the four houses: Brigid, Chisholm, MacKillop, and Romero.
This day gave students the opportunity to dress up in their house colours, filling the day with excitement as students participated in various events, ranging from individual races to team relays. The competition was fierce, but the friendly spirit of house rivalry kept the energy high, with students cheering on their teammates and showing great sportsmanship throughout the day.
Those who didn’t swim also had the opportunity to do other fun activities, such as the splash park, which was open to all students. There were also many other activities run throughout the day, organised by the student committees, including:
- Face painting by the Student Council
- A photo booth by the Arts & Celebrations Committee
- Sporting activities like badminton and volleyball by the Sports Committee
- 10 Cent cans and bottle collections by the Social Justice Committee
Throughout the day, there were many amazing performances, with several students breaking records and achieving personal bests. We also congratulate the students who took one for the team, doing their very best in races to gain some extra points for their house.
The day ended with the traditional Year 12 celebration, where the seniors sang their chosen song, 'California Girls', and commemorated their final high school swimming carnival with a jump into the pool, dressed in fabulous, creative costumes.
Another highlight was the long-standing rivalry between the Year 12 students and the teachers in the 25-metre 4x4 freestyle relay. With three teacher teams, and one Year 12 team, the race was a neck-and-neck battle, but in the end, the teacher team pulled through to win!
By the end of the day, the points were calculated, leaving only one team being able to get their house printed on the Swimming Carnival plaque. That team was… MACKILLOP with a great lead in points!
The swimming carnival is a highlight of the school year, and once again, it proved to be another day full of laughter, competition, and lasting memories. A huge thank you to all the House leaders and Mr. McGrath for organising the carnival, as well as the other student committees, teachers for managing the events and helping run such a fantastic day, and to all the participants for making it a day to remember.

"The Brighter Futures Tutoring Program provides academic support for Primary School students, usually from culturally and linguistically diverse families. The program model uses mentors from Killester College to support primary school students with their homework and further learning. The Program helps to improve students’ confidence and performance at school.
The program is run as a partnership between AVWA (Australian Vietnamese Women's Association) and Killester College and occurs onsite at Killester. This opportunity is being offered to Year 10 2025 students." - Sally Buick, Principal
