Principal's Message
From the Desk of Kathy Nott - Term 1, Week 8
Good afternoon, Parents/Carers,
Colour Run
Thank you to all who attended and helped in our colour run last Friday. We had a great day, and the weather was kind to us. It was great to see so many parents attend, and we thank the P&C for providing a BBQ and refreshments for us all to enjoy. The proceeds raised were $3,500 on the day which will go towards our Major Excursion to Sydney. Head over to our Colour Run page to see all the photos of the day.
Uniform
Wearing our uniform promotes a sense of belonging for students and creates a positive identity for the school community. The NSW Department of Education strongly encourages the wearing of school uniform in all state public schools. Werris Creek Public School P&C and all staff at the school support this view. Werris Creek Public School colours are Royal Blue and Yellow. Please help us maintain our pride in our school and our uniform by observing our uniform policy. Should you need to add additional layers we ask that they please be in our school colours. Jumpers, shorts, shirts etc are available to purchase from the School Office.
Returning of Permission Notes
If you are required to return a permission note or money to the school, it can be placed in the letter box that is located in the foyer of the office at the sign in table. Please ensure that if notes or money are to be given to the office, you remind your child at drop off so they can bring in straight away.
Behaviour Focus
Each week we focus on a particular behaviour to ensure our students know what is expected each and every day. Those students who achieve the behaviour focuses receive over and above awards to fill their rewards chart.
Our behaviour focus for Week 8 is again Ready - Be Ready and Resilient (with our focus on NAPLAN):
NAPLAN
This week our Year 3&5 students only will be participating in the final two NAPLAN assessments for 2025. The reading and writing and assessment took place last week and this week we will conclude with Conventions of Language and Numeracy. Catch up days for those that were unable to attend due to illness will be this Wednesday, 19th and Thursday, 20th March.
Harmony Day
Today we are celebrating Harmony Day. It was great to see all of our students dressed in the colour Orange which is the colour chosen to represent Harmony Day. Traditionally, orange signifies social communication and meaningful conversations. It also relates to the freedom of ideas and encouragement of mutual respect. Our teachers will be providing activities and learning around this year's theme which is "Harmony - We all have a role to play".
4/5/6W Science & Engineering Challenge
Our students in 4/5/6W will be heading to the TREC this Friday, 21st March to participate in the Science & Engineering Challenge held by the Light House Rotary and UNE Newcastle. This is a fantastic experience for our students to get involved with hands on experiments in the world of science and engineering.
K/2 Excursion to "The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show"
Our K/2 students will be heading to the Capitol Theatre next week to watch "The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show". We have noted that there are a some students yet to return their notes and pay for this event. Please ensure that all monies and permissions are returned by tomorrow to finalise numbers.
School Assembly
We will be holding our School Assembly next Friday, 28th March at 2:15pm and all are welcome to attend. Our 2/3O class will be presenting an item and we will have some students in Years 3-6 who will be showing their skills in public speaking.
Smoking/Vaping on or near school grounds
Vaping and smoking cigarettes are treated in the same way in NSW public schools, as outlined in the Drugs in Schools Policy:
Smoking (including vaping) on school premises, including school buildings, gardens, sports fields and car parks, is prohibited. This includes students, employees, visitors and other people who use school premises, including community groups. For the health and safety of our students/staff and wider community, we ask that you refrain from smoking/vaping on or near the school premises.
Turn Up Awards
To encourage our students to attend school every day we have introduced the "Turn Up" award. Each day your child attends their name will be entered into the draw to receive a canteen voucher capped at $7.00. A voucher will be issued each week to each class. If your child attends 5 times in that week they have 5 entries. If they attend two days in that week they have 2 entries. Our winners for Week 6 are:
K/1B - Latrell
2/3O - Parker
4/5/6W - Telmie
Congratulations, you will each receive a canteen voucher to enjoy a free lunch from the Canteen next Friday, 28th March.
Kind regards
Kathy Nott
