Performing Arts
The prep students have been exploring emotions through music, drama, and dance. They have been actively identifying their feelings while listening to different types of music and discovering how to express those emotions through movement.
In grades 1 and 2, the children have been busy creating costumes for a celebration themed "Birthday." They are using various fabrics to design and bring their creative ideas to life.
Meanwhile, students in grades 3 and 4 have embarked on an exciting project where they are developing a performance that integrates dance, drama, and music. This performance is inspired by an indigenous story, allowing them to connect with cultural narratives as they express their creativity.
Finally, the grade 5 and 6 students have been applying their newfound knowledge of Asian cultures to create scripts for a puppet show. They are focusing on Indonesian culture as their primary source of inspiration, delving into storytelling while honing their dramatic skills, they have also created costumes that are inspired by the Indigenous or Asian Cultures.
Overall, our students are engaging in a rich variety of artistic experiences, learning to express themselves while exploring diverse cultures and emotions.
Physical Education
During this term the emphasis has been on the fundamental skills of catching and throwing. In addition to these skills, the older students (grades 3-6) have been working on their ability to be part of a team. They have been learning about how they can actively become a part of a team by being in good position, moving regularly and calling for the ball. I have seen a lot of improvement across the school from our preps, right through to our grade sixes. Well done!
Our school cross country event has also been completed. Congratulations to all of our place getters and participants. The overall winning house was Murphy, scoring 97 points, followed by Adams in second place, scoring 82 points, Kennedy in third place, scoring 76 points, and Anderson in fourth place, scoring 73 points. Those students that have qualified for the district cross country event, will be notified shortly.
ART
In the last couple of weeks the preps have experimented with building castles out of cardboard boxes, with paint by stamping patterns on black paper and they have been exploring the colour wheel by kneading play doh in the primary colours; yellow, blue and red, to discover how they can make the secondary colours; green, purple and orange.
The grades 1 and 2 have practised their fine motor skills by creating colourful paper sculptures on card and they have learnt how to draw edible and non-edible items on 'silly sandwiches', while working on their colour pencil techniques.
In year 3 and 4 we now know what an Art Installation is, because we created one; made out of paper cups, dangling from a piece of string and inspired by the work of Gwyneth Leech.
We also made the most beautiful and colourful cats in the style of artist Lauren Burgh. We practised with blending, patterns and complementary colour schemes.
The grade 5 and 6s have tried their hand at composition and patterns in watercolour in a Valentine hearts project that turned out very well. They also made fabulous work creating snakes and turtles against a 'camouflaged' background, discovering how these animals can almost disappear into the background because the patterns on their skin resemble their habitat.
