Respectful Relationships

Respectful Relationships

The Respectful Relationships Initiative is a core component of the Victorian Curriculum. It is a whole school approach to embedding a culture of respect and equality across the entire school community.

At Box Hill High School, our whole-school approach focuses on our regular reviewing of existing procedures and culture to ensure that we model respectful relationships and gender equality practices across the entire school community. Examples of this are evidenced through:

  • 7-9 RESPECT program

  • 7-12 Homegroup

  • Celebration and recognition of days/events of significance (e.g., International Women’s Day, Harmony Day)

  • Social and emotional learning in the curriculum

  • Student survey’s (e.g., Culture Survey, Student Attitudes to School Survey)

  • Student focus groups

  • Staff professional learning

  • Allocation of resources (e.g., Mental Health Fund, Disability Inclusion funding)

  • Embedding of High Impact Wellbeing strategies as core elements of teaching

  • Implementation of Positive Classroom Management Strategies as core elements of enabling learning.

Further to this, our whole-school approach to Respectful Relationships recognises that we must continue to ensure that we:

  • Create a workplace where all staff should feel equally respected, safe and valued and have equal opportunities

  • Create a safe environment where young people can learn about gender equality and respectful relationships, in and out of the classroom

  • Ensure that as part of the wider community, we consistently model gender equality and respectful relationships.
