Report by Jamie Lethborg

On Tues 18 Feb our students showed great determination and sportsmanship in their games against Koonung, Blackburn, and East Doncaster, despite narrowly missing out on wins in all three matches. Every player gave their best on the field, with standout moments including James's impressive catching, Gus's strong pitching, and Angus's fantastic all-round performance. The team should be proud of their efforts and the positive spirit they displayed throughout the competition.

Senior Boys Cricket

The Senior Boys Cricket team had a great day out. The boys performed admirably in the first game against Blackburn HS, only going down by 6 runs. Dharm P and Flynn D were significant contributors to the total, while Angus McL was our sole wicket taker.

In the second match vs East Doncaster SC, our boys came away victorious by 11 runs, with Tim E and Dharm P again making significant contributions with the bat, while Ryan W and Menuka J each took a valuable wicket to sure up the victory.  Finishing second place in our pool resulted in a 3rd-place playoff game against SEDA, where the boys played exceptionally well to come away with the victory.

Angus McL starred with the ball, narrowly missing out on a hat-trick, while Jacob D top-scored and retired not-out with 27 - his highest ever score in a cricket game.  A special thanks to Mr Snow & Mr Howlett for their expert coaching and umpiring, ensuring a successful day was had by all!

Boys Intermediate Cricket Team

The Intermediate Boys Cricket team won the division title by defeating both Blackburn and East Doncaster. The first game was very close with the boys chasing down 103 off the second last ball of the innings. The final was a one sided match with Box Hill chasing down 65 with 10 overs to spare. All players contributed across the day. Best players on the day were Krish N, Kanishk G and Amay T.

Girls Intermediate Cricket team

On Friday 28 February, the Box Hill High School Year 9 and 10 Girls Intermediate Cricket side competed in their interschool tournament at Elgar Park. The team faced off against Koonung Secondary College and Blackburn High School in a series of exciting and competitive matches.

The girls showed immense sportsmanship and determination throughout the day, with all players contributing to their team’s efforts, regardless of their previous experience or understanding of cricket. Many of the girls were new to the sport, but their enthusiasm and willingness to learn and support one another were commendable. Every player, whether familiar with the game or not, stepped up to the challenge and played with great heart.

Two players who stood out on the day were Jessie M and Jorja M. Jessie was the team's leading run-scorer, consistently finding the boundary and playing crucial innings that helped keep BHHS competitive in each match. Jorja also had an impressive performance, almost securing a hat-trick at one point, showcasing her skill and determination as a bowler. Their individual performances were a testament to the hard work and passion they put into the game.

Unfortunately, the results did not go BHHS's way. In their first match against Blackburn High School, BHHS fell shy by just 4 runs in a tightly contested game. In the second match, they were outplayed by Koonung Secondary College, who proved to be the stronger side on the day.

A special mention goes to the fantastic officials involved in the tournament, who helped ensure the event ran smoothly and provided great support for all the players.

Overall, it was a wonderful day of cricket, with the BHHS girls being outstanding representatives of their school, showing that sportsmanship and teamwork can shine through no matter the level of experience.

Intermediate Tennis

Box Hill’s Boys Intermediate A tennis team were defeated by a strong East Doncaster side at the local tournament hosted by Koonung Secondary College on Friday 28 February. Our team won several matches against opponents from three schools in the district, but finished the tournament as runners up due to some strategic errors during the doubles matches. Box Hill’s Boys B team matched their opponents well and walked away with a clutch of victories, while the C team performed admirably, having been asked to play multiple A team opponents after another school’s team withdrew from the tournament at short notice.

Senior Netball

What a competitive day at the Senior Netball competition on 4 March! The Boys Netball teams each played four games for the day - A team winning the first three games with an unfortunate loss to Blackburn in the last four minutes of the game. B and C teams had a mixture of wins and losses, with all teams having a fun and enjoyable day.

The Girls teams also had some fabulous competitive matches. The A Team dominated in their first game against East Doncaster but lost the following to Blackburn. And while our B and C teams also had a mixture of wins and losses, all the girls brought their A game when it came to fun, camaraderie and team spirit.

The MVPs for the Boys A team, were Paddy H and Aaron DeM. MVPs for the Girls A team were Jemima F and Roxane C.

Congratulations to all players for their dedication and for proudly representing Box Hill High School!

Senior Baseball

The VCE baseball team put in a strong performance in their recent matches, narrowly missing out on victory in both games but demonstrating impressive hitting across the lineup.

In Game 1 against Blackburn, the team fought hard but ultimately fell just short, losing 6-5 in a tight contest. Game 2 against East Doncaster followed a similar pattern, with the team showing great offensive power but unable to secure the win, finishing 9-5.

A major highlight of the day was the team's batting, with every player stepping up and contributing at the plate. Despite the losses, the team showed plenty of potential, and with some tighter defence, both games could have gone our way.

Special mention goes to our MVPs, Brian and Paul, who led by example with outstanding performances.

Well done everyone!
