Pi Day!

by Ms Shelley Thacker, Numeracy Learning Specialist

Happy Pi Day! On 14 March (3.14, get it?), our school celebrated the mathematical constant π with a day filled with exciting activities and challenges. From reciting digits to hunting for pies, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

A Day of Pi-themed Fun!

Lunch time kicked off with a flurry of activity in the Quad, with students eager to participate in the various competitions. Here's a recap of the exciting events:

  • Guess the Circumference of the Lolly Jar: Students tested their estimation skills by guessing the circumference of a jar filled with lollies.

  • Draw the Best Circle: Arm outstretched, students challenged their friends to draw the most perfect circle on a whiteboard. A true test of dexterity and artistic ability!

  • Pi Scavenger Hunt: A school-wide adventure! Participants followed clues hidden around the school, answering pi-related questions to win a prize.

  • Recite the Digits of Pi: A true test of memory and dedication! Students recited as many digits of pi as they could remember.

  • Measure 3.14mL of Water: Precision was key in this challenge, where students aimed to pour exactly 3.14mL of water.

  • Pi Day Colouring In Competition: A creative outlet for all; with vibrant, pi-themed artwork on display in the library.
