Careers update

Year 9 My Career Insights, Morrisby Program

The My Career Insights, Morrisby program was a tremendous success again this year. We were off to an early start, with students completing profiling on Monday, in Week 4, with a 99% completion rate. We embarked on our 6 days straight of the 1:1 unpacking student interview schedule with a trained Morrisby consultant. We noticed many parents who were able to join the Webex meetings from work or home, making it accessible for all. It was great to see so many students pleased with their results and the guidance they received from their consultant meetings.

Students have lifelong access to their Morrisby account and can add a personal email address for future access after finishing school. The Morrisby aptitudes can be undertaken again in Year 10 or 11 when students are focusing on their own interests and expertise. Morrisby reports and profiles will be referred to when meeting with students over the coming school years to look for advice and ideas regarding subject selection and future career pathways.

Huge congratulations to all Year 9 students for their proactive participation during the Morrisby program.

Year 10 Momentum Program

Resume Writing

In Week 6, Year 10 Momentum Program students had the chance to craft their personalized resumes. The Careers Team led them through the resume-writing process, covering key elements to include, common mistakes to avoid, and tips for proper formatting. For those who already had a resume, it was also an excellent opportunity to make updates and improvements.

Interview Skills Workshop

In Week 8, students participated in an Interview Skills Workshop, where the Careers Team shared valuable tips on how to prepare for interviews, present themselves confidently, and what to expect before, during, and after the interview process. Teachers took on different characters to demonstrate key interview techniques, highlighting the dos and don’ts, all while keeping the atmosphere light and fun with plenty of laughs.

It’s been a pleasure working with such an eager group of young adults, and a big thank you to the teachers for showcasing their acting talent on stage!

Ms Minnie Zeng played the role of a student attending an interview for a role in the hospitality industry, with Ms Jenny Banks as the employer.

All students at BHHS are invited to visit the Careers team for assistance and advice with resume writing and interview skills.

Work Experience

Work Experience offers students a fantastic opportunity to explore the world of work during a one-week block, with dates arranged between the student and the employer. All Year 10 students are invited to take part in the Work Experience program throughout the year (during school term).

The Careers team regularly posts available opportunities on the Year 10 Teams page, so be sure to check for openings to apply! If you’re interested in participating but need help finding a placement, don’t hesitate to come and see us for assistance.
