Students in Unit 1&2 Geography participated in their fieldwork in Yarraville to investigate air pollution in Melbourne’s Inner West. They explored the western side of Melbourne, which is a fresh and eye-opening experience for many students to see the industrial zone and the transport hub of the city. They investigate the construction of the new West Gate Tunnel and its impact on urban management and freight industries in the future. Students collected primary data through traffic count, noise measurement and public survey, created data for their fieldwork report. They also applied geospatial technology in their fieldwork to collect data and analyse spatial patterns.
This is a valuable experience for students to practice their data collection skills in the field and explore local geography outside of the classroom. Well done to all the students completing this wonderful trip!
Thank you to Mr Aaron Leeson for supporting the fieldwork!

Students across five classes visited Brighton Beach to explore changes to this popular tourist location, famous for its Beach Boxes. At the beach, they gathered data on foot traffic and physical process of erosion due to longshore drift and the management strategies used to maintain the sand on the beach where tourists like to visit. We have attended this location over many years and have rich data on the changes to this coastline, including the new surf club building and rain garden to filter storm water.
Thank you to all the wonderful geography teachers who made this fieldwork possible: Ms Vicky Lin, Ms Karen Huang, and Ms Sophie Ioannidis, plus Ms Yvenne Ma, Mr Aaron Leeson, Mr Jamie Moshman, and Ms Emmalene Clarkson.
