Social Justice Action Team (SJAT) News

Last week, I had the pleasure of meeting with our SJAT members, Hudson,  Zoe, Mia, Alyssa, Molly and Charles for the first time this year. The SJAT is another way that student voice is expressed here at St Brendan’s. I am very much looking forward to accompanying Mrs Carr, the School Captains and Vice School Captains and the  SJAT to the annual Catholic Education Week Mass at St Patrick’s Cathedral this Friday.

    Lent Continues

The first project for the SJAT is to oversee fundraising for the Caritas Project Compassion Lenten AppealLent is a time of fasting, i.e. giving up something considered to be a treat. It is also a time when we are especially reminded of the Catholic Social Teaching Principal Preferential Option for Those in Need, as we are called to ‘alms give’ and Unite Against Poverty through the Caritas Australia Project Compassion Appeal.

During Lent, all students will learn about the Catholic Christian tradition of ‘almsgiving’, which aligns beautifully with the Caritas Project Compassion Lenten Appeal. As supporters of Caritas, we are also fortunate to access a wide range of free Caritas school curriculum resources for school and home use. Will you give more, or give up something this Lent?

Each classroom has a Project Compassion donation box, where small cash donations are encouraged throughout Lent. Families are encouraged to learn more about the work of Caritas, and contribute whatever they can electronically to support Caritas. Can your family answer the call to care for our global family by walking alongside the most vulnerable?

For more information please visit the Caritas webpage here or click on the QR code below the Project Compassion Lenten Prayer
