Uniform Matters

At the end of every year, Year 7 through to Year 11 Students, Parents and Guardians are asked to attend to College uniform expectations in time for the commencement of the following school year. New families to the College are informed of requirements associated with uniform prior to enrolment acceptance. Uniform expectations are not negotiable, and all students are regularly reminded of this at their year level assemblies, through written and electronic communication, and conditions are clearly stipulated in the Student Planner.

Further to this, I recently addressed all students and staff at the Term 1 College Assembly about uniform standards, and I thank those parents who reached out to support this address, after having followed the assembly via the shared livestream link. Students were reminded that uniform expectations apply at all times – whilst students are travelling to and from school, when representing the College at external events or occasions, and during the course of the school day whilst on campus.

A great emphasis was also placed on students complying with requests from staff to address their uniform (shirts tucked in, hair tied back fully, and blazers on during morning and afternoon commutes or other gatherings such as assemblies), and to uphold requests even once out of the staff member’s line of sight. It is not acceptable for students to undo and dishevel their appearance in regard to their uniform, once they have exited the College gates of an afternoon.

Students were reminded that their uniform is linked to College identity, a sense of community and belonging and is representative of having pride in their school. Students were reminded that it is a privilege to wear the St Monica's College uniform, rather than an entitlement and therefore as a member of this College and conditions of enrolment, expectations must be adhered to. Uniform does matter at St Monica’s College.
