STEM: Year 9 Aviation Takes Flight!

Our Year 9 STEM students have officially launched into their Aviation Unit, an exciting hands-on learning experience that explores the principles of flight. This engaging unit introduces students to the four fundamental forces of aviation - Lift, Gravity, Thrust, and Drag - through a series of interactive activities, beginning with a Paper Plane Challenge.

Students will put their engineering skills to the test by designing and refining electric-powered planes to achieve maximum speed and load capacity. As they progress, they will apply the same principles of aerodynamics and Bernoulli’s Principle to craft and compete with balsa wood planes, deepening their understanding of aviation.

This challenge not only develops scientific inquiry, mathematical modelling, and engineering iteration but also fosters creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

We look forward to seeing the innovative designs our Year 9 students create. Stay tuned as these young aviation engineers take flight!
