The Badano Program

Over the past fortnight, our Badano Program has been dedicated to exploring the life of Blessed Chiara Badano, the inspiring young woman after whom our program is named. Chiara embodies resilience, strength, compassion, and an unwavering faith - qualities that continue to inspire our students today.

Chiara’s short but impactful life was marked by her deep love for others and her steadfast belief in the value of living with purpose. Despite facing a terminal illness, she remained joyful and encouraged young people to embrace life fully.

One of her most memorable statements was:

“Oh Mama, young people… young people … they are the future. You see, I can’t run anymore but I would like to pass on to them the torch, like in the Olympics! Young people have only one life and it’s worthwhile to spend it well.”

In honour of this message, our students have participated in a meaningful activity, creating their own torches in their homerooms. These torches serve as a symbol and guide, reminding them to live with purpose, to care for themselves and others, and to approach life with kindness and faith.

Through this lesson, our students have reflected on the importance of perseverance in the face of challenges, the strength found in community, and the impact of small acts of compassion. Along the way, they have also experienced moments of discovery, gaining deeper insights into their own values and aspirations.

We encourage you to continue this conversation at home by asking your child about their personalreflections and how they hope to carry their own ‘torch’ forward.

We are proud of the thoughtful engagement of our students in this activity and their willingness to embrace Chiara’s legacy.

Thank you for your continued support in fostering the values that underpin our pastoral program.
