Mr Daniel Lapolla
Dear Parents, Students, and Friends of St Virgil’s College,
A key takeaway from my the EREA National Principal’s gathering this week was centred around the words from Father Greg Boyle who Zoomed in from the United States. When asked about teaching others to be resilient his response was
“People who are loved and cherished are resilient.”
We can at times get too focused on creating courses on how to teach young people to be resilient. However, when we all feel as though we belong, when we are loved and cherished, we become better equipped to deal with the world around us.
Tradition, ritual and legacy are of particular importance as we continue to build upon the connection and togetherness of a Kindergarten to Year 12 College. Providing opportunities to come together and to demonstrate the significance of a student’s journey through the year levels is of importance. To see the smiling faces of our little prep students looking up and our Year 12 students was fantastic. I would like to thank our Junior School staff for preparing our younger students so well and we look forward to further opportunities to come together. At the Senior School, I would like to commend Mr Venter, Mrs Ball and our choir for all of their contributions, which was a great celebration.
Please note that staff are on active yard duty from 8.20 am each morning. If students are dropped off at Austins Ferry prior to 8.00 am we hold significant duty of care concerns. If students are getting dropped off between 7.00 am and 7.30 am, I suggest that an element of investigation into bus timetables and or arrangements with parents/carers in terms of morning routines needs to occur. Please note that students who are identified as being on site too early will be directed to wait outside the main office and our administration staff will need to contact home to relay this message of concern.
On Tuesday 13 May, the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra will be performing two concerts at the Joyce Performing Centre at the Senior Campus. These concerts, titled "More Words and Music", feature the Mini Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and are aimed at primary school aged students. Audience members will have the opportunity to direct the musicians and learn how words can shape music. The concerts also feature a musical performance of The Flying Orchestra by the Australian author Clare McFadden and music by Joe Twist, the arranger of the 'Bluey' theme music. Register now.
