Mission & Faith Life

This week's Gospel

Love your enemies,

do good to those who hate you,

bless those who curse you,

pray for those who treat you badly…

Give to everyone who asks you…

Treat others as you would like them to treat you…

Be compassionate as your Father is compassionate…

Salvado Day

Today, our students celebrated Salvado Day. Our College came together for Mass to show gratitude for and acknowledge the inspiring life of our College patron, Bishop Rosendo Salvado. We celebrate Salvado Day around 1st March each year as this date was a memorable day for Bishop Rosendo Salvado for many reasons – it was his birthday; the feast day of his patron saint, St Rosendo; the day he said his first Mass; and the day the first foundation stone was laid at New Norcia.

Bishop Rosendo Salvado believed that nothing worthwhile for God’s Kingdom was done without patience, perseverance, prudence and prayer. We are reminded every day at Salvado Catholic College to journey with Bishop Rosendo Salvado. Through his example, we too can become true followers of Jesus Christ as people of peace, justice and compassion.

Project Compassion

Our College is again Uniting Against Poverty this Lent by taking part in Caritas Australia's Project Compassion! This Lent, we're raising funds to empower people living in poverty around the world. Our 2025 Project Compassion Fundraiser will be launched in Week 5 on Shrove Tuesday 4 March and will run throughout the season of Lent until Easter.

This week, Project Compassion donations boxes will go home to families to collect cash donations for this wonderful cause. Boxes will be collected at the beginning of Term 2.

Families are also able to donate online by clicking on the link below:

Shrove Tuesday

On Shrove Tuesday students and staff will enjoy a Pancake at recess to mark this special day.

All students are invited to bring a GOLD COIN DONATION for Project Compassion to their class Learning Space teacher or Pastoral Care Teacher on this day.

Shrove Tuesday “marks the final day of Ordinary Time before the solemn season of Lent commences on Ash Wednesday. This day is synonymous with celebration, often seen as the last opportunity to indulge in rich and indulgent foods before the penitential period of fasting and abstinence during Lent. Fat Tuesday is a time for revelry and festivities, with people coming together to enjoy sumptuous meals, delicious treats, and vibrant parades. It serves as a joyful farewell to the carefree days of Ordinary Time, emphasizing the imminent spiritual journey of self-reflection and preparation for Easter.”

Ash Wednesday

Our Ash Wednesday Masses will be held in Week 5 on Wednesday 5 March. Ash Wednesday is the first day of the liturgical season of Lent. It is the 40 days leading up to Easter. Lent is a quiet season of reflection and conversion of heart - turning away from sin and being faithful to the Gospel. It is a time of prayer, fasting andalmsgiving (charitable giving) to develop a closer relationship with God.

At Salvado Catholic College we encourage all students during this season to make time for God through quiet prayer and reflection; choose something to abstain from, like eating sweets, or giving up time to help someone else; and donate to those in need.

Year 7 Excursion to St Francis Xavier Church

Last week, our Year 7 students celebrated Mass with Fr Mark at St Francis Xavier Catholic Church as part of their Religious Education program which looks at how Catholic communities help people deepen their relationship with God. After Mass, the students were able to ask Fr Mark lots of questions about the Mass and take a tour of the Church.

A huge thank you to Fr. Mark Baumgarten and the St Francis Xavier parish for welcoming our students. Thank you also to the College staff who supported our students on this excursion. We also commend our Year 7 students for their respectful participation—your reverence and engagement beautifully reflected the values of our College.

Pope Francis' Monthly Prayer Intention

In March, we pray for families in crisis.

Let us pray that broken families might discover the cure for their wounds through forgiveness, rediscovering each other's gifts, even in their differences.
