5/6 CLASSROOM

Grade 5/6 Market Stalls

As part of their learning in the Cross-Curriculum topic of Economics & Business, the Grade 5/6 students will be hosting an exciting Market Stall Day on Thursday, April 3rd—the second-last day of the term. Throughout this unit, students have been exploring the key principles of running a business, gaining insight into both the foundational concepts and the practical aspects of daily operations.

Each student has carefully planned their stall by selecting products to sell, determining pricing strategies, calculating cost prices, and estimating potential profits. They have also developed unique stall names and designed eye-catching logos to promote their businesses. This hands-on experience will provide valuable real-world learning, reinforcing their understanding of entrepreneurship, financial decision-making, and marketing strategies.

Further details for the Market Stall Day will be shared on PAM. Please keep an eye out!

Classroom Learning Update:Our Grade 5/6 students have recently finished reading War Horse and thoroughly enjoyed discussing its rich vocabulary and key themes. It has been fantastic to see students recognising and using these new vocabulary words across different subjects and in their everyday conversations. Their ability to make connections with language beyond the novel has been truly impressive!

Mathematics: In Mathematics, students have completed their learning on BODMAS and have confidently tackled equations involving all four operations. Their ability to follow the correct steps and apply their knowledge to a variety of mathematical problems has been outstanding. We are now shifting our focus to perimeter, where students will explore how to calculate the distance around different polygons, both regular and irregular. Additionally, we will be introducing composite shapes, helping students understand how different shapes can be combined to form new ones.

Religious Education: In Religious Education, students have been deepening their understanding of Lent and reflecting on how this season can bring transformation in our lives. Through textual analysis, they have examined various Bible stories, exploring the settings, characters, and any personal wonderings they have about the texts. Their engagement and thoughtful reflections have been wonderful to witness.

Market Stall Excitement:Our Market Stall Day preparations are in full swing! Students have been eagerly working on their business plans and are looking forward to showcasing their stalls next Thursday. The excitement is building as they finalise their products, pricing, and marketing strategies—stay tuned for more details soon!

Interschool Athletics Success:A huge congratulations to all students who participated in the Interschool Athletics yesterday. It was incredible to see their enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and confidence as they competed in various events. The energy and effort they put in were inspiring, and while there were plenty of tired students by the end of the day, the event was a huge success. A big thank you to all the parents and supporters who came along to cheer, encourage, and assist in making the day run smoothly—we truly appreciate your support!

Buddy Time: Last week, our Grade 5/6 and F/1/2 buddies came together for a fun and engaging buddy activity. They worked in pairs to create a Buddy Sandwich, mixing and matching some unique ingredients to craft their very own delicious sandwich! It was fantastic to see the teamwork and collaboration between the students as they worked through the activity, sharing ideas and helping one another. Their final creations were a true reflection of their creativity and enthusiasm!
