F/1/2 CLASSROOM

Our F/1/2 students have been busy each day in InitialLit, exploring sounds, letters, digraphs, grammar, and punctuation. One of the highlights has been our storybook lessons, where students actively listen for key words, helping to expand their vocabulary and deepen their understanding of new concepts. A key strength of InitialLit is the consistent reinforcement of skills, allowing students to confidently progress as they master each level of learning. These are our Tricky Word trees, each week we add a new word/words that students practice in the classroom.

In Ochre Maths, we have been laying strong foundations in addition and subtraction, focusing on building numbers to 5, 10, and 20. Students are using a variety of materials to explore numbers in different ways and are successfully applying their learning through hands-on activities. Our daily review and reteach slides are proving valuable in reinforcing new skills while ensuring previous learning is retained.

A wonderful sign of our students’ enthusiasm for learning is the number of full workbooks already—an incredible achievement before the end of Term 1!

We invite families to visit our classroom and take a look at the amazing work on display outside. The students take great pride in seeing their efforts showcased and would love to share them with you. During Inquiry students have explored ‘Who am I and where do I belong’. This included looking at firstly themselves, their family, their home and then their community. Briefly we continued to explore how we belong to the greater community living in Victoria and then further into a deeper understanding of Australia.

Finally, don’t forget to join us for our liturgy this Friday, where our students will lead a beautiful celebration as we prepare for Easter. We look forward to seeing you there!
