Celebration of Achievements
Writing
Over the past fortnight, our Year One students have been busy exploring information reports as they created their very own All About Koalas book! We began by discussing the purpose, structure, and language features of information reports. With guidance from our teachers, students researched koalas’ diet, habitat, appearance, and fascinating fun facts. They then used their findings to craft engaging reports for our readers. We were also incredibly fortunate to have our literacy specialist, Mike, along with Assistant Principal Adrienne and Tom, visit our classrooms to celebrate our achievements.
Maths
It has been an exciting two weeks in Maths! We started by consolidating our skills in partitioning numbers up to 20, using number bonds to break numbers into parts. Students then participated in a range of fun and interactive activities, including the all-time favourite Chicken Scramble and Year One Cohort Counting. These activities challenged students to work with larger numbers by developing effective and efficient counting strategies using grouping techniques. A highlight of our learning was when students applied their counting skills to determine the total number of students in the Year One cohort!
Gardening
Our school garden, bursting with vibrant plants, flowers, and fascinating creatures, continues to be a favourite spot for our students. Taking advantage of the warm weather, our young gardeners eagerly observed insects and bugs while gathering materials to build an insect hotel! Their curiosity and enthusiasm for nature made for a wonderful hands-on learning experience.
