Prep
This week the Preps have been learning about the Seven Wurundjeri Seasons and celebrating Eel Season. They have been discussing eel migration from the tropical waters off northern Queensland down into Melbourne’s rivers, such as the Yarra and Maribyrnong. They have also been making bouncy paper eels. Happy Eel Season everyone!
Grade 1
In their unit of ‘Habitats’, Grade 1s have shifted from their soil studies to a focus on plants: discussing parts of a plant, what plants need to survive and why plants are so important. Last week they planted cress seeds to eat. Here is a photo of Leonardo’s cress - carefully monitored at home every day. Well done Leonardo!
This week Grade 1s are trying to eat ‘the whole plant’: roots (carrot), stem (celery), leaves (spinach), flower (broccoli), seeds (fresh peas). It was interesting graphing the results of this trial.
Grade 2
Grade 2s have completed their wonderful team posters on fresh and saltwater sources, including Oceans, Tidal Rock Pools, Wetlands, Lakes Ponds and Billabongs, and Rivers Creeks and Streams. They are now beginning to investigate the three states of water, having fun with some experiments along the way.
