Physical Education

From Kale, Mark and Ben, The PE Men
Hello NMPS,
Here in the PE Dept we love all things movement. So, if the weather, or NAPLAN, builders, or camps, emergency drills or even jackhammers get in the way of our regular program, we pivot and adapt. This term we've been using our Errol St 'in the gym' time to incorporate upcoming sports, like soccer and athletics, into our beloved gymnastics time. Check out this epic photo of Year 3 Ollie getting deep into the athletics mindset by committing to his Long Jump technique practice over the Super Mario gap.
NMPS House Cross Country is coming...
1) WHAT?
Gr. 3 – 6 House Cross Country
2) WHEN?
Friday 28th March
Grade 5-6 - Departing school @ 8:50am. Returning at approx 10:40am
Grade 3-4 - Departing school @11:30am. Returning to school at approx 1:15pm
3) WHERE?
Royal Park Native Grassland - (around the circle track)
4) WHAT EVENTS and DISTANCE DO THE DIFFERENT AGE GROUPS RUN?
Grade 3’s - 1.22 km (1 Lap)
Grade 4’s – 2.44 km (2 Laps)
Grade 5’s – 2.44 km (2 Laps)
Grade 6’s – 2.44 km (2 Laps)
5) HOW WILL DISTRICT PROGRESSION BE DECIDED?
The PE teachers will be timing each race. The top 10 children from each year level race, boys and girls, will have their time recorded. The top 6 fastest students per age group/gender will progress through District. We may not know this on the day and may announce this later in the afternoon or on the holidays.
If a student finishes in the top 6 for their race, this may not automatically mean they progress to the District event. Eg. The first 6 finishes in the Year 6 race may all be 11 years old with very fast times, meaning the 11 year old winner of the Grade 5 race with a slower time may not progress.
****PLEASE REMIND STUDENTS THEY ARE RACING THE CLOCK, NOT NECESSARILY THE PEOPLE IN THEIR RACE!!!****
The Age Groups are
- 8 Year olds (Will not go through to Districts)
- 9/10 Year olds
- 11 Year olds
- 12 / 13 Year olds
The Age groups are based on the age they have turned or are turning this year in 2025. For example, if a child is currently 10, but is turning 11 before the end of 2025, they will be competing with the 11 Year Olds to progress to Districts, even though they are running in the Grade 4 race and competing age wise against students in Grade 5. Please ensure your students know this, they are running against the clock!!!
6) PARENT HELPERS
All classes will require 1-2 parent helpers to assist with walking to and from school to Royal Park. If you can assist and hold a Current Working With Children's Check, please let your child's classroom teacher know and ensure you complete the attached Volunteer Induction Form and return it to the office with a copy of your WWCC card.
