Kitchen & Garden News

From Erin & Tess, Kitchen Garden Team

The Year 4's are on a Roll!

In the kitchen the Year 4's have been continuing to practice their safe knife skills and are working towards gaining their knife licences at the end of the term. On our menu was Rainbow Rice Paper Rolls with Purple Noodles and Apple and Cinnamon Turon with Date Caramel and Fruit Salad.

Cucumbers were sliced, carrots were julienned, and herbs were shredded, there was lots of rolling!

Fragile rice paper wrappers were rolled with noodles, tofu and vegies. Then thinly sliced apples were rolled in spring roll sheets to create our crispy and crunchy Turon.

We have been discussing and experimenting with natural colours and created purple noodles dyed with purple cabbage. We also made a pink strawberry vinegar using leftover strawberry tops for making a salad dressing in the future.

In the garden there has been an abundance of fruity goodness with our apples and guava trees giving us some nice harvests, along with the rhubarb.

There has been lots cucumbers, beans, and baby capsicums appearing which have been enjoyed in the kitchen in many dishes. We have also noticed some stink bugs hanging around our garden, camouflaged in the leaves.

Can you spot one hiding in the photo....?
