District Swimming

By Penny K – Year 6

Crowds were cheering as swimmers jumped into the pool, water splashed everywhere as people went to touch the end of the pool.

Hi, I’m Penny and I was on the swim team for District Swimming. I’m here to tell you about my experience.

I was in for freestyle relay I was beaming with excitement as I would get to hang out with friends, compete and most of all, I got to have a whole day of sport!

When we came off the bus, I was shaking hoping I wouldn’t let my team down. I cheered on my friends as they competed in their events. Soon it would become my event. I walked up with my teammates trembling. As the first swimmer dived, in a flash I dived in, going as fast as I possibly could. When I got out, I was shaking full of adrenaline.

While we didn’t place first it was a fun experience wish I could be able to do it again.

The full bus of students bumped down the freeway to swimming districts, everyone talking excitedly with their friends. After ages of waiting, the bus finally stopped and all the students got out and lined up so we could get into the pool quicker.

It was a very bright and hot day so everyone sheltered in the shade for most of the time when we weren’t watching.

The people who were in freestyle went first and then relaxed in the shade waiting for the other events to end, and the people who had relays and medleys went last and waited nervously for their turn.

Lots of races were decided by a fingernail, with students pushing their muscles to the limit, but there was also some really big wins by NMPS teams. After a fun day, with ribbons pinned to our rashies, we went home.

On the bus drive back to school we took an unexpected tour of Melbourne and arrived at Uni High but then made it back to school for assembly, ready for the weekend.
