Grade 3
The Grade 3 students have been looking at Indigenous artist Kathleen Buzzacott. Her paintings tell stories about her life, culture, and the land she loves. In particular students have been viewing and discussing her paintings of native birds. Buzzacott loves to paint birds like kookaburras, cockatoos, and rainbow lorikeets, showing them surrounded by vibrant patterns and colours. These birds are important to her and are a reminder of the sounds and sights of the Australian bush she would play in as a child. Using her work as inspiration students drew their own Australian birds using chalk pastel on brown paper.
Grade 4
The Grade 4 students have been learning about Ted Harrison. Ted Harrison was a British Canadian artist known for his bright and colourful paintings that celebrate the beauty of Canada’s North. His paintings are known for their bold, vibrant hues and simple, flowing lines. His work will often feature mountains, lakes and the northern lights. Using Harrison's work as inspiration, students created their own landscapes on coloured paper using chalk pastels and black glue for their lines.
Grade 5/6
