Writing - Parliament Prize the 90 Second Speech

Around 5,000  students each year enter into the parliament prize, and only 3 students get recognised. It isn’t impossible to win but it is unlikely, yet that seems to motivate all the students of NMPS to be the exception. And from all the speeches I’ve heard I’m sure a few of them will be. Over the past week grade 6 have been working hard to make their voice heard in a brief but powerful speech. We also got introduced to a new writing structure called TREE: Topic, reason, explanation, and ending. We learnt so much and took our writing pieces to the next level. The whole cohort put their blood sweat and tears into these speeches and they deserve to be recognised for their hard work.

School Playground Safety

Mira, 6F

Blood. Noun, the red liquid that circulates through out the veins of humans and all other vertebrates, carrying oxygen to and carbon dioxide from various tissues of the body. It is stereotypically found on the floor of battlefields, hospitals and maybe the boxing ring. The grim truth is that  the floor of the playground has an equal amount of bloodshed to all of those places and this bloodshed is due to unsafe play equipment and safe proofing errors.

I, Mira D strongly believe School playgrounds should be carefully and effectively safe proofed so kids can play without risk or worry. In 2022 the national library of medicine reported that one fifth of all paediatric injuries were from school. That is one fifth to many, the real devastating fact is that kids get hospitalised for week after week all because of unscrewed bolts, rusty chains. These small things can be fixed with a brief but efficient inspection and understanding the warning signs

Being blessed to go to a school that has playgrounds I have to address other injury hazards like ramps, tall unstable trees, stairs without handrails and slippery floors. Basic safety materials or instructions could easily prevent schools from having to deal with injured children left to right.

To conclude I’m not asking you to solve world hunger. I’m asking you to make a child's memories  of the school playground fond and joyful. Not sad and melancholy. Open your eyes, look around and contribute to the ever growing solution.

Clean water access for all countries

Amvi, 6C

About one fourth of the world was struggling to gain access to clean drinking water in 2018,and there is an undesirably high chance that nothing has changed. It is surprising and underwhelming that even after the inventions of high technology (ies) there is still not a healthy water source in most cities.

People have to travel just to consume water that’ll make them sick or worse. This is one the major problems of drinking contaminated water, travelling long distances for it isn’t really worth it because without water you won’t survive long, but by drinking dirty, contaminated water all you are doing is improving, are your chances of  survival.

And that is what most people rely on, chances, when it really shouldn’t be that way, especially with a a simple living need.

The governments of all countries should build an organisation that people can donate to. And even if the country doesn’t have money (which is highly unlikely) the government should construct one well at a time.

Most of the time the water is muddy, murky and can contain insects and worms in it, this is also how people get sick, since insects carry extremely harmful, intoxicating diseases and bacteria.

In conclusion the lack of clean water can be remarkably harmful because it could contain harmful inedible insects consisting in the water, travelling for it isn’t worth it and one fourth of the world-which could of included you-is suffering because of it.

So we should do everything to lessen-if not stop-the amount of people who need this simple liquid that could determine whether you live, or not.
