Exploration indoors and outdoors

Literacy

The Year Twos have begun to explore non-fiction texts. We have learnt about and identified the key features of this type of writing, including diagrams, labels and captions, as well as some of the commonly utilised transition words that help the reader move through the text. We have begun to familiarise ourselves with a new form of graphic organiser that helps us to plan our non-fiction pieces. We will start using this tool in the coming weeks. Some of the phonemes covered in our Phonics learning include /or/ as in fork /ore/ as in shore,  /ar/ as in shark, oi as in boil and /oy/ as in toy.

Numeracy

We have used a series of activities to familiarise and consolidate various addition and subtraction strategies with one and two digit numbers. These include partitioning, number lines, finding double and near doubles.

Gardening

We saw the students collect small sticks from the Errol St garden and build insect hotels! A lovely way to ensure we are keeping our environment safe for all.
