Harmony Day

On Friday this week we celebrated Harmony Day. This is a day where we enjoy recognising the unique traditions, backgrounds, and cultural heritage of each person. The day is also a fundraiser for Ararat Christian School in Uganda.

Students and Staff came to School either wearing orange (the official colour of Harmony Day), dressed in the colours of their heritage flag, or wearing a traditional form of clothing from their heritage, as a symbol of unity and respect for our different cultural backgrounds. The day also included a lunchtime Kahoot and a Junior School Concert.

The Power of Kindness

This week, our Year 5 students have been exploring the power of kindness and the importance of being a good friend. We’ve had meaningful discussions about how our actions and words can have a lasting impact on those around us - whether it’s through a smile, a kind word, or simply taking the time to include someone.

As part of our learning, each student was secretly given the name of a classmate and challenged to perform a "random act of kindness" for them. It has been wonderful to see the small but powerful ways they have encouraged and supported one another - whether through kind notes, helping with classroom tasks, or simply being a good listener.

In Ephesians 4:32, we are reminded to “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you". Kindness is a choice we can make every day, and even the smallest gestures can make a big difference.

Now, we want to extend this challenge to the whole King’s community! This week, we encourage every student, teacher, and family member to take part in a random act of kindness. It could be as simple as:

- Holding the door open for someone

- Writing a thank you note

- Offering to help a friend or sibling

- Giving a genuine compliment

- Including someone new at lunch or recess

Let’s work together to make our school and community a place where kindness shines through our words and actions.

What will your random act of kindness be this week?
