The Adventures of Superstan

What an amazing night we had on Monday. Our students were stars!

Thank you to our wonderful cast who spent so much time learning their parts, songs and movements. The timing, expressions and performance were amazing.

Productions happen with the silent crew doing their role seamlessly - thank you to the crew for their hard work during rehearsals and throughout the performance.

Congratulations to all of our BPPS students with each being a part of The Adventures of Superstan.

Thank you to Miss Zoe for all of the work putting together our outstanding show. Her tireless dedication and ability to coordinate such an amazing production was appreciated by all of everyone.

It has been wonderful to get such great feedback about the production.

Thank you to our staff and the many parent volunteers for all of their support through auditions, rehearsals, costume making, prop making, makeup, hair and throughout the evening of the performance.

Multi-age classes

This week our families received details about class structure for 2026.

Each year, we review our enrolments, community needs and staffing to shape class structures that best support learning and wellbeing.

For 2026, Boroondara Park Primary School (BPPS) will run multi-age classes for Grades 1/2, 3/4 and 5/6. Multiage classes bring together two-year levels, giving teachers greater flexibility to tailor learning and maintain balanced class sizes that support both academic and social development.

Our focus remains the same: ensuring every child feels known, supported and challenged at their own level.

In every classroom – whether straight or multi-age – there’s a natural range of abilities, interests and learning needs. Our teachers plan for this diversity every day. It’s no longer about “teaching the year level”; it’s about knowing each learner.

For example, during a writing unit, some students might focus on developing sentence structure while others refine voice and vocabulary – working on the same topic but at different levels of readiness. These flexible approaches ensure that every child is challenged and supported appropriately.

Multi-age classrooms also give students a wider circle of relationships and learning experiences. They help build cooperation, leadership and confidence as students learn from one another across ages. Older students take pride in supporting younger peers, while younger ones benefit from role models and new friendships. The result is a strong, connected classroom where difference is normal and valued.

It’s natural to have questions about how multi-age classes work in practice, particularly around curriculum coverage or individual attention. Research consistently shows that multi-age classes do not disadvantage students academically. What makes the biggest difference – by a large margin – is the quality of teaching.

We are fortunate at BPPS to have an experienced, collaborative teaching team. Our staff plan together, share data and continually refine their practice to meet the needs of each child. Lessons are designed using assessment data and adjusted for readiness so students can work at a level that challenges them appropriately. Teachers may group students by ability for some tasks and by mixed abilities for others, depending on the purpose of learning.

Each year, a great deal of thought goes into class formation to make sure we balance learning needs, friendships and wellbeing. Our priority is always the best interests of every student.

If you’d like to know more about how multi-age learning works, or what it might mean for your child, please reach out – we’re always happy to talk. You’ll also find answers to some common questions below.

Thank you for your ongoing trust and partnership.

Friendship choices

We are beginning the process of planning for 2026 classroom placements. There are many factors that go into planning grades each year and these include your child’s social, emotional and learning needs.

This year we are adapting the way we are asking students to choose 5 friendship preferences for their 2026 grade.

Student Choice Friendship Slip to complete was sent home. on November 10th. This is one week to complete this form. We encourage you to be involved by discussing the choices together with your child.

Classroom choices are an important part of supporting your child’s learning and wellbeing. At school, we will be talking with students about making thoughtful and positive choices. We encourage you to have similar conversations at home, reminding your child to choose classmates who will help them learn, stay focused, and work well together in a collaborative and supportive way.

On the slip, your child needs to write down five names of students they would like to have in their class next year. Please note that the order of the names does not indicate preference, and while we cannot guarantee all requests, your child will have at least one of the five nominated peers in their 2026 class.

In 2026, BPPS will operate multi-age classes for Grades 1/2, 3/4, and 5/6. Your child may wish to choose friends who are not in the same year level, and that’s absolutely fine.

To complete the process:

  • The form must be signed by both the parent/carer and the child
  • Completed forms should be returned to the classroom teacher by Monday, 17th November.

If the Student Choice Slip isn’t returned by Monday 17th November, your child will complete this slip in class, and their choices will be final.

We appreciate your support in helping us create happy, well-balanced classes for the year ahead.

70th year celebration

We cannot wait for our exciting 70th year celebration this Sunday November 16th. There will be lots of opportunities to have fun, catch up with old friends and teachers. There are food trucks, carnival games, amusements, plants, cakes, second hand books and so much more!

Thank you to the amazing team who have put this day together (Maria, Nadia and Leanne) and thank you to our fantastic office staff for all of their work. Thank you to everyone for getting involved on Sunday and helping us celebrate Boroondara Park PS!

There are still slots for volunteers needing to be filled, as the old saying goes many hands make light work.

We especially need assistance with set up on Sunday morning and pack up in the late afternoon. There are also slots for the carnival games - if you have an older child bring them along to assist you!

Bottom Oval Working Bee

We hope you have Saturday November 22nd in your family calendar. We are excited to be working on our bottom oval on this day.

This is a significant part of the bottom oval works as we will be aerating and preparing the surface for re-seeding. Listed below are some of the activities we need volunteers to help with:

  • Fencing – erecting and re-organising the fencing after the 70th Anniversary event
  • Operating 2 soil corer machines and collecting the soil cores
  • Help with soil spreading and surface levelling at the footy goals

Volunteers are welcome to join us throughout the day, however, due to the nature of the works we ask that you at least commit to a minimum 2-hour block.
