In the classroom

Foundation/1
This fortnight, the Foundation/Grade 1 classroom has been busy learning about location and data during our Numeracy lessons. We have to thank Miss Ryan for allowing us to have a fun lesson of data collecting and graphing using M&Ms. The excitement of counting and collecting the colours was so great to see and hear. The class enjoyed putting everything into a graph then eating the lollies at the end. This week we continued our fun math's learning with looking at location. The class is really good at describing where an item is using; next to, on top, in front, left, right and ordinal numbers. We finished off this unit investigating location using beebots. We worked on sharing and descriptive language making our bee move about the floor.
Year 1/2
The grade 1-2 students have continued to impress with their growth in their latest Literacy assessments. They have shown just how far they have progressed with their reading and spelling skills this year. As we come into the busy part of the year, please remember to keep reading with your child, the more they read and reinforce the skills they are learning in class, the more they will be able to recall and remember those skills in the future.
Year 3/4
Following a very special Grandparent's Day Mass, the 3 / 4 class spent some time reflecting on their relationship with their grandparents, as Father Jophin mentioned - our link between the past and the future.
My Nanna lives in Shepparton in a retirement village.
I don’t get to see her often. It is special when I do get to see her. Camden Gr 3
My nan is amazing because she cooks for me and takes care of me and Riley. Harper B Gr 4
My grandparents are the best!
On my dad's side they have already passed. My Dad's Dad was born in 1920
and my dad's mum was born in 1923, so I never got to see them, but I know what
they look like. I only know what they look like because there's a family photo of them.
On my mum's side they are still alive. My grandad is funny, kind and he tickles me and my sister a lot. My brother likes going with him on the tractor. My gran volunteers at the Nathalia hospital. She's kind, her hugs are amazing, she kisses me and she's happy all the time. Isabelle Gr 3
My Grandparents take me to the movies, take me out to lunch and give me special treats.
If I feel sad my Grandparents listen to me and cheer me up. My Grandparents give me
big hugs every time I see them. They play games with me and make me laugh. I help
my grandpa by watering his plants when he is away. I help my nan pick the dead
leaves off the rose bushes. I help my nan feed her dog. I help my grandpa with the
leaves that fall of the trees in his backyard. I love my Grandparents a lot. Matilda Gr 4
At Grandparent's Day we had a Grandparent's Day Mass where Father Jophin said some really lovely things. I showed Grandma around. Oliver Gr 3
I love my Grandparents because my Poppy/Rob teaches me when I get something wrong and cooks us food and is really kind. My nanny/Glenda is really kind, is very funny and also cooks delicious food.
My Nana/Kathy is funny, kind, and cooks us delicious food and plays card games with us and has baby chicks. My pa/Hughie helps my dad on the farm and is very funny. My cousins Porter, Isla and I love going fishing with Nana and Pa. I love my grandparents. Riva Gr4
My grandparents are the best. They usually let us stay at their house and I call my nan Mema and call Dave 'Chook' and he has a stroke and he's still alive. My nan always gives me at least 5 Pepsi's day and night! When we're there she lets us play our iPad nonstop until 7am and I love her. Sonny Gr 3.
Year 6
In Literacy, our Grade 6’s finished the novel Once and thoroughly enjoyed it. They have now started writing an information report on Poland. Here are some introductions and body paragraphs that some of the students have written for their reports:
Miley Ciavarella (Introduction)
Poland’s History
Have you ever been to Poland? Poland is an amazing, beautiful country in the heart of Europe. Would you ever go and visit? This report will explain almost every detail of Poland and the importance of Poland’s history.
Caitlin Murray (Introduction)
Poland
Poland is a country in central Europe with a very interesting history. Due to its location, Poland has a unique varied landscape and culture. This report will discuss Poland’s geography, people, culture, flora, fauna and Australia’s interconnection with Poland.
Harry James (Body Paragraph)
Poland’s Beautiful Land and Structure
Poland is one of the largest countries in Eastern Europe. The capital city is Warsaw, which is the largest city in the country. Poland borders 7 countries including Russia, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Lithuania, Belarus and Ukraine but the borders were different before WW1, but these are the borders to this day. Its landscapes are varied, with northern beaches, plains, over 1300 small lakes and snow-capped mountains in the south. Poland’s land has many different landmarks to explore.
In Numeracy, the Grade 6’s have been working on discounts with percentages. They have developed an understanding for finding any percentage of numbers, even with decimals. We will soon be looking at fractions more closely.
