Cricket Academy Update

As the school year is nearing a finish, the cricket season is really starting to ramp up. Many of our students who play for their local clubs on weekends have returned to school training with some impressive performances. These detailed match reports from our students, have allowed us to tailor our sessions, providing targeted training opportunities based on individual needs and progress.

Outstanding local performances so far:

  • Abigail Martin – Best Bowling: 3/20
  • Rhyanni Stewart – Best Bowling: 2/8
  • Zayne Williams Busuttil – Best Bowling: 2/13
  • Matthew O’Halloran – Best Bowling: 1/9

With our local facilities now fully set up for cricket, students have been engaging in more centre-wicket practice, working through a range of match scenarios. Both batters and bowlers are challenged to adapt to different situations, applying their skills and decision-making under pressure. These sessions have created a high-intensity, match-like environment where players are transferring what they’ve learned in the nets into real-game contexts.

Rugby Academy Community Umu — Building Strength On and Off the Field

Last weekend, the Rugby Academy came together for a special community tradition Umu, a cultural gathering that celebrates teamwork, respect, and connection—the same values we strive to build in every student at our college. This was well supported by the Connect Ed team as well.

An umu—a traditional earth oven used across the Pacific—is far more than a way to prepare food. It represents patience, shared responsibility, and collective effort, making it a perfect reflection of what our Academy stands for. Lead by Coach Ephraim, players arrived early to help prepare the stones, arrange the food, and carefully build the layers of the oven. From peeling taro to wrapping meat and vegetables, everyone had a role, and the atmosphere was filled with laughter, music, and a genuine sense of belonging.

When the umu was finally opened the Rugby Academy along with college staff gathered to share a meal that showcased both tradition and teamwork. It was a chance to reflect on the season so far, celebrate individual growth, and acknowledge the volunteers who make our Academy possible.

Events like the umu remind us that we are not just developing rugby players—we are developing grounded, confident young people who understand the importance of identity, respect, and service.

Thank you to everyone who contributed their time, skills, and spirit. This is what makes our Rugby Academy truly special.
