YEAR 1/2 SPOTLIGHT

On 31st October, students acknowledged Day for Daniel by wearing a splash of red and taking part in important discussions about child safety. During our well-being lessons this term, they listened to the story Wobbly Jelly and learned how to recognise what happens to their bodies when they feel unsafe, worried or anxious. Together, they also identified five trusted adults they can turn to when they need help or feel unsure.  These activities supported students in developing emotional awareness and resilience, helping them to recognise, understand and manage their feelings in safe and positive ways.

WORLD CHILDREN'S DAY

What is World Children's Day?

Every year on 20th November, the world comes together to celebrate children’s rights and recognise that every child deserves to learn, thrive and have a voice.

The day commemorates the anniversary of the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child — a landmark agreement that affirms children’s rights to protection, education, health and participation.

This year, under the theme “My Day, My Rights”, children around the world speak up about their lives and futures.

How our school will join the celebration

At Corpus Christi, our students will participate in special activities through our Wellbeing and Social Emotional Learning curriculum that explore their rights, what it means to feel safe and valued, and how they can have a voice in their own learning. Although we recognise and highlight World Children’s Day on 20th November, we believe every day is children’s day at Corpus Christi — meaning we strive daily to listen to students, support their growth, and value their contribution.

Why it matters

By exploring rights and responsibilities in age-appropriate ways, children learn that:

  • they have the right to learn and grow in a safe and supportive environment.

  • their ideas, feelings and perspectives matter.

  • building kindness, respect and a voice for others helps everyone thrive. This understanding supports their confidence, resilience and sense of belonging.

We encourage all of our parents to join the conversation at home by asking your child about what they learnt at school, what rights they feel are most important, and how we can all contribute to a caring and inclusive community.

Thank you for your support — we look forward to celebrating and learning together.
