Term 4, Week 5

Hi Everyone,

World Teacher’s Day was made extra special for all our staff here at Ironside, as our wonderful P&C gave us $25 vouchers each for Briki.  The delightful tam at Briki then added another $5 to each of those.  So, as many of us as were able, wandered down to Briki for breakfast on Friday and had a great time celebrating together.  THANK YOU P&C and BRIKI!!!!  😊  On top of this, there were lots of beautiful cards, gifts and thoughtful words spoken from children and parents alike.  Thank you to everyone for making this such a special day for our teachers!

In the last newsletter I was congratulating one of our student Samara, for her incredible athleticism. This week I am turning to swimming. Congratulations Harvey Twinn, who is the 6th fastest in Australia for his age in the 50m breaststroke!! What an incredible achievement and his coach spoke so proudly about Harvey, at our P&C Meeting last week.

We had Colin, one of the outstanding teachers from Writer’s Toolbox, come in and model teaching in classes for us to observe today.   This is such great professional development and it is impossible not to walk away enthused.  Thank you again to our P&C who has paid to bring Writer’s Toolbox into our school.

Thank you to everyone who gave up their time to attend the P&C Meeting last week.  It was long but we achieved many things.  I was able to announce that in 2025 we are bringing the Explicit Maths Program into our school for years P-2, which will be a wonderful addition to help our Mathematics teaching in the lower school here at Ironside State School.

Mr Kukulies and Mr Corbett ran the Instrumental Music Recruitment Information Night last week, to discuss how children can be selected for the program.  I have exciting news about instrumental music, we have been generously given extra time above our official allocation for 2026!! Thank you to our regional team for this support.   This means that Mr Kukulies and Mrs Weekes get to teach a little more and that is a great thing!

We also had out Bring Your Own Device parent Information Night for 2026 year 5 and 6s. A lot of people came but if you missed out, please feel free to contact us for information.   Thank you to Mr Perrier and Mr Corbett for presenting this information.

The Silent Halloween Disco was honestly so much fun!  I smiled and swayed from beginning to end.  Everyone had such a great time.  Thank you to our Student Council, Mrs Pinkerton and Mr Corbett for organising it, as well as our staff volunteers.

We have another big week coming up this week.  There are two excursions; Prep has Renata Jayne coming to tell stories to them and Year 1 have the StarLab visiting our school.  Our Japan Study Tour Group are meeting to reflect in their recent, wonderful trip.  Our Debating Teams have some more competitions coming up this week and I am hopeful that our Year 6 team continues their undefeated streak.

Have a truly wonderful week!

Yours in Education,
