Year 4
Spotlight on Learning
Jericho Community
Dear Families,
It's been a jampacked weeekwith assessment, learning, the Remembrance prayer service and our Mass this week. Its also been our last week of collecting the batteries, we took them down to the office today to await collection.
Due to the weather, our Remembrance day ceremony was held in doors in our own community. The year four classes joined together to commemorate all those who have served our country with the theme "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" - Matthew 11:28. It was led by the Year 6 social justice team and Mr Mac.

Our Community Mass went very well on Wednesday with wonderful feedback from the Parish. The theme was 'Peace I leave with you', how we can be Pilgrims of Peace was celebrated with a heartfelt homily with Father Dennis. Hamish, Ann Rose, Megan, Joshua, Nathaniel, Birmadu, Danii, Justin and Isabella spoke well in front of the congregation, while Keira, Imogen and Angelina formed the Offertory Procession. All the students were reverent during the service. Thankyou to all the family and friends who were able to attend.

English:

This week the students continued working on challenging vocabulary such as altruistic, built interesting sentences that use descriptive language and created their own visuals to explain words or situations (without text). They continued to infer what happens via the pictures in the text 'The Arrival', this will continue next week as well. Next weeks vocabulary will include the words monotonous, despicable and secluded, while the students will also practice creating summaries in a sentence.
Mathematics:
This week the students completed the unit on 3D including undertaking assessment that asked the students to identify elements of 3D shapes such as faces and vertices, while using that information to correctly label 3D shapes. Next week the students will begin a probability unit that begins with the exploration of chance, including ordering chance from least to most likely. Questions will include 'Can events of chance influence each other?' and 'How can you tell if 2 events are independent?'
Religious Education:
With our focus being mainly on our Mass and Remembrance day this week, next week the students will be learning about the Journey's of Mary and Joseph. Students will be asked to retell the main points of the scripture while exploring how their journey was a pilgrimage of trust.
Social & Emotional Learning & Integrated Studies:
This week students identified people we can turn to for help if needed and identified people they are able to help. They learnt how to combine trust and courage when they need to seek help and identified ways to use the ‘tell’, step in the No, Go, Tell model.
Auslan:
This week our focus was 'In the sea'. Next week we will practice animal's 'In the air', retrieve the signs for two other things with wings - birds and chicken. In our ‘Beware’ story, we will retrieve the signs for brown, green, look, want, play, can, with, yes, have, what, dog, quiet, white and again
