Water audit

Last Wednesday those fabulous students from the Sustainability group conducted a water audit of our school with Bella our Resource Smart Schools coordinator. We went around the school and noted down the places that use water, such as toilets, taps and appliances. We looked for taps or bubblers that were dripping and any toilets that were leaking throughout the school. 

Did you know? 

A tap dripping 1 drop per second will waste 7.2 litres of water per day.

A tap with a steady drip will waste 115.2 litres of water per day.

A trickle will lose 388.8 litres per day,

A stream of water coming out of a tap will waste 1195.2 litres per day!!

Luckily, we did not find any leaking toilets and only two places where taps were dripping! 

After our audit we brainstormed some ideas of ways we can save water, such as spreading awareness though the school of the importance of saving water, putting containers under bubblers to catch runoff water to use on our gardens and unclogging bubblers that have been filled with tan bark and sand, so that they work properly.

Our water audit will help us to make changes to improve the way we use water at Wales Street and contribute to Wales Street earning the Water star for our Resource Smart Schools school rating.
