Students are taking their reading to the next level with new teacher led reciprocal reading groups! Students practise leading discussions, asking questions, and sharing insights

with each other, they’re diving deeper into their novels and learning from one another. It’s exciting to see students so engaged and enthusiastic about their reading journey. They are also focusing on inferring character traits based on their novels.

We have expanding our knowledge this week on Explanation texts. We are learning the structure and requirements for each section of our report with the focus on tier two and three words, topic sentences and technical vocabulary. Make sure to ask your children how honey is produced, or how the journey from a tadpole to frog occurs! You will be impressed!

Last Wednesday the we were invited to attend the High Schools Science Fair. It gave us insight into the wide world of science by listening to real life scientists from CSL Behring, and viewing fantastic science experiments from Year 9 students. Students got to vote on their favourite experiment and watch awards being handed out. Students were then given snacks and some opportunities to answer quiz questions for cupcakes!

All students are starting to make connections between fractions and decimals, some are even starting to explore percentages. Students have been working on using number lines to order and compare different values. Playing card games and matching games has also helped students to identify the connections between fractions and decimals.

We have started to construct our buildings that are looked after by the local, state and federal governments.

The students have enthusiastically been creating 3D shapes and discussing how they can be incorporated into their designs.

Once we are finished we would love to invite parents/ caregivers in to take a tour of our virtual city.

Great job guys!!!

We had a visit from our State Member of Parliament, Mrs Kathleen Matthews-Ward to discuss with us her role and the roles of Government. It was very interesting with students asking a range of important questions relating to their ideas and interests for the greater Broadmeadows area.
