In reading, the grade 3/4s have been exploring the comprehension strategy of inferring. We have learnt about how readers can use identify clues in the text and background knowledge to come up with a new idea that is not explicitly stated in the text. We started to build our inferring skills be identifying clues in pictures/photographs and in short video clips.

We have also continued to explore the structure, features and language of an explanation text. Building this knowledge has helped us with creating our own explanation texts in writing.
In writing, the grade 3/4s have started to write explanation texts. We have researched about the life cycle of a butterfly by reading books, looking at websites and watching informational videos. With the information we gathered, we have created plans and started drafting our texts. We will complete our information texts next week!

In maths, the grade 3/4s have continued to build their understanding of multiplication. We have enjoyed playing lots of multiplication games! Some students have also started to learn strategies for multi-digit multiplication equations, such as the area model.

Last week, the grade 3's had a very special event. We celebrated the launch of the book that they created with author, Heather Gallagher, as part of the Ardoch program. All grade 3 students wrote a poem and artwork with Heather and the poems were then collated and published into a REAL book. The grade 3's are all published authors now! A representative from the local library and the Deputy Mayor of Hume City Cr Karen Sherry were also present to celebrate the special occasion. A copy of the book will also be in the library for other people in the community to read and borrow! Congratulations grade 3s!!!

We finished our Olympic unit with a Mini Olympics day! It was exciting participating in fun events and receiving medals. We finished off the day with decorating gold medal biscuits.

In inquiry, we have started to explore the difference between rules and laws. We have discussed different places that have rules and why they are important. The grade 3/4s have also talked about why there might be different rules for different places.
