The 1/2s have been continuing to examine different fairy tales in Reading and changing details to create their own stories in Writing! We have been having fun looking at classic fairy tales, such as; Little Red Riding Hood, The Three Little Pigs, Goldilocks, The Three Billy Goats Gruff and Jack and the Beanstalk, and comparing them to different versions of the stories. This has helped us imagine different endings and plot structures to write our own versions of the stories. This has helped to prepare us for Disco Disco as it will be fairy tale themed!
In Numeracy we have finished up with multiplication. We had so much fun examining groups of and arrays and searching for them around the school. You can also try to find some at home!

We have started learning about fractions and practising finding halves and quarters, and linking this to our everyday lives. What fractions do you use at home? Maybe you do some cooking? Or cutting up food?
On Wednesday 14th August, Shelley Matheson came to visit our school and talk to the 1/2 children about growth mindset and resilience.
Shelley is a three-time Paralympian. She competed at the Paralympic Games in Athens in 2004, Beijing in 2008, and London in 2012. Shelley competed in the women’s wheelchair basketball event and won a medal at each Games. Her medals were silver, bronze, and silver.
Shelley talked about how she came to be in a wheelchair, and reminded us that if we see someone with a disability we don’t ask them about it. They may choose to share their story, as Shelley did, but we don’t ask. Shelley talked about how she came to play basketball and join the Australian team, the Gliders.
Shelley talked about how hard it can be when you suffer a disappointment, but how important it is to not give up. When the Australian team were playing in Beijing, they lost the match that would have given them a chance to win a gold or silver medal. The team were devastated but had to find their resilience to compete in the match to try and win the bronze medal.
Shelley gave some students the opportunity to try her game chair, and passed her medals around for us to hold and try on.
One of our student leaders, Batoul, thanked Shelley for coming to our school and presented her with a gift of thanks.
