A love of learning in Primary Years
The PYP places significant emphasis not only on learning, but also on how we learn. At GNLC our educators work hard to build a classroom environment that cultivates curiosity and enthusiasm. Our teaching and learning programs work towards building a love of life-long learning.
Some of the ways we do this are through:
1. Student Agency – supporting our students to take ownership of their learning by setting goals and discovering the steps they need to take to achieve them.
2. Reflection – students are encouraged to think about their thinking and reflect on their work to improve.
3. Collaboration – We plan group tasks and facilitate class discussions that give students opportunities to voice concerns, ask questions, share ideas and seek more information to build a better understanding of new learning.
4. Making Connections – We know a positive environment, where everyone feels safe and valued, helps students feel confident and empowered to learn. We work hard to support students in building positive relationships with teachers and peers.
5. Fostering Creativity – Creative expression is a central part of our teaching and learning. We encourage students to explain concepts and share their understandings in different ways.
6. Giving Feedback – Our teachers provide regular feedback that celebrates learning gains and focuses on the next steps of learning. Feedback is given both orally and in written form. Peer and self-assessment are also integrated into our learning experiences.
When asked what they love most about learning at GNLC, this is what our students said:
"I love learning at GNLC because there is a lot of teamwork involved. Everyone is working together and kind to each other. I like having my friends around me. It’s more enjoyable and the experience of learning with them is ten times greater. " Aarya 6B
"I love how my teacher lets me demonstrate my learning how I want. We are given choice in how we present our work. Sometimes if we only have one way to present, the idea given to me doesn’t let me show my creative thinking. Choice lets me show my understanding of the topic in my own way."
Veera 6B
"I like learning math because we learn some easy things and then we learn some hard stuff."
Mehtaab 1C
"I love art because we can create nice things and when we work hard it comes out great."
Ameeya 1C
"I love how teachers explain different things. Our teachers are nice and help us learn by supporting us in every way and tell us when we are doing the right thing and then guide us into new learning too.

Love for Learning in the MYP
At our school, the Middle Years Programme (MYP) fosters a deep love for learning by emphasizing inquiry-based education. Students explore subjects through questions and real-world connections, making learning relevant and exciting. Whether it's a geography unit on global sustainability or a community project supporting pet-friendly housing, our learners see the impact of their studies beyond the classroom.
The MYP empowers students with voice and choice, encouraging them to take ownership of their education. This autonomy, combined with the support and inspiration from our dedicated educators, creates a stimulating environment where learning is enjoyable and fulfilling.
Celebrating 'love for learning' in the MYP means recognizing the joy of discovery and the lifelong skills our students develop. Through the MYP, we nurture curious, thoughtful, and compassionate global citizens ready to make a difference in the world.

Year 9 Community Project Update
Our Year 9 students are now in the "Taking Action" phase, which will conclude on 30 August. During this period, they are actively implementing their plans, making a tangible impact in their chosen communities.
In September, we will transition into the "Reflection" phase. Students will evaluate their efforts, considering what they've learned and measuring the impact of their projects in these communities.
Term 4 will be dedicated to preparing for their presentations, scheduled for 30 October. This is an exciting opportunity for students to showcase their hard work and share their experiences with the school community.
A reminder to all students and parents: any off-campus activities must be approved by Mrs. Wegener, the Head of Secondary. This ensures that all activities adhere to our school's policies for safety and transparency.
Thank you for your continued support in making the Community Project a success!
