What an amazing month at Jells Park PS

There is always lots happening at our school, but the past months has just showed the quality and volume of the things we do and the opportunitys students can have:

  • Previously mentioned - our Danceaerobics team's Silver Medal at Nationals in Adelaide.
  • Maggie K's team Bronze at National Schools Cross Country.
  • The outstanding success of the Wheels for Wishes Day (yesterday), not only a great community event but also raised over $7,000 for Make-a-Wish Foundation.
  • Sporting success with Netball, Basketball, and Football, with teams progressing on to the Division competitions.
  • Winning the District Athletics Trophy - our first year in a new District against bigger schools, yet we still came out on top!!
  • The success of the class and individual Maths Talent Quest projects, that included 4 Distinctions and 1 High Distinction.
  • Some really excellent NAPLAN results.
  • The work being done behind the scenes for State School Spectacular - which is coming up on 14 September.

Parent Opinion Survey - extended

The portal for the Parent Opinion Survey has been extended - please complete if you haven't yet!!

Last chance to have your say on the 2024 Parent Opinion Survey, which is now open until 20 September.  Currently I have had 16% of the community respond - I would love to get this to at least 30%.

We greatly value the input and opinions of parents about the school, whether positive or critical. This is the best way we can learn, improve and make changes for the benefit of your children.

Jordan Gilbert - past student

As a school we congratulate Jordan Gilbert, a past student (exit 2017), who competed for Australia at the World Track & Field Championships. Jordan is a 400m runner and was in both the Mixed and Mens 4x400m Relay Teams. He came home with a silver and bronze medal, plus an U20 National Record for the Mixed Relay team.

Super proud of you Jordan.

TeamKids

Have you checked out the program at TeamKids lately??

As we approch the school holidays, have a look at TeamKids Program for the two weeks. There is heaps of great activities happening that you might find your children really keen to attend. If you need a day to yourself of have other commitments during the holidays, why not consider letting TeamKids do the entertaining!!

Playgrounds

Just for clarification, the following is our expectations with regards to who uses what palygrounds during the year. While we try to enforce this as best as we can, it is not always possible to check on every student.

  • Junior Playground and Sandpit - for Foundation, Level 1 and Level 2. (Sometimes senior students are there if they are specifically supporting their junior buddy)
  • Senior Playground and Sandpit - for Level 3 - Level 6 students. (In the latter months of the year we do allow Level 2 students to play there also, as they get bigger and more confident.
  • Oval Playground - is for everyone, however due to the height of the equipment and the need to climb, we do strongly recommend that Foundation students do not play on this equipment.
  • Oval - is for everyone, however, again, due to the crowding with bigger kids, we again encourage Foundation students to play their ball games elsewhere.
  • Basketball Court - is for everyone.
  • Low Basketball Ring (front of office) - is for Foundation, Level 1 and Level 2 students only.

R U OK?

Thursday 12th September is R U OK day, the theme is 'Ask R U OK? Any Day because life happens every day' highlights the importance of regularly checking in with friends and family. Supporting our students' mental health and wellbeing is something we value greatly. We have many different strategies and supports in place at Jells Park PS to ensure our students are happy, healthy and resilient. Some of these include Ziggy who is a valued member of staff and part of our D-Paws program, our amazing Wellbeing Officer Laura, daily Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) time and the Zones of Regulation. All students are encouraged to express their feelings and thoughts and to talk to a trusted friend/adult if things are not quite right.

Parents and carers might like to have a look at the R U OK? website or the Raising Children website for resources and support in ways to communicate with their children about this important subject.

Thank you

Thank you to the many students and families who have made my return to JPPS so delightful! I've had some lovely conversations with students and have enjoyed hearing about their year so far and the achievements and celebrations they have experienced. My role at JPPS is very similar to when I left so please reach out if there is anything I can do to support you or your child and I look forward to working with this wonderful community again.
