Ballarat Young Authors’ Program

Last Thursday, 8 August we hosted workshop two of the Ballarat Young Authors’ Program at our Scotsburn Campus. We had 106 students in attendance from across the six participating schools.

The students took part in four workshops throughout the day with local authors, a songwriter and teachers. The workshops were:

  • Scot Gardner- Keeping it Real!
  • Olivia Wearne- Getting inspired
  • Mark Muldoon- Songwriting
  • Ana Anderson & Jess Norris- Using dialogue in your writing

We thank all the participating schools, presenting authors, teachers and parents for your support. It was another successful Young Authors’ Day, and we look forward to our next workshop day on 5 September.

BULLDOGS COLOURING COMPETITION

A reminder that the Western Bulldogs colouring competition closes next Monday, 19 August.

The competition is judged on the best class, not individual students. Therefore students need to return their completed colouring to their classroom teacher who will then submit to the office in class bundles.

Copies of the colouring competition can be obtained from the front office.

Many thanks for your interest and support and good luck!

NATIONAL SCIENCE WEEK

This week is National Science Week.  There are many activities planned for students in their classrooms, at STEM, along with some optional lunch time activities and challenges.

The school theme for National Science Week in 2024 is Species Survival - more than just sustainability. The theme aims to highlight the importance of science and innovation in ensuring the survival and thriving of different species in an ever-changing world.

BOOK WEEK - READING IS MAGIC

Book Week is next week! As mentioned previously, students will not require a Book Week costume for this week. Instead, we will be running lots of other fun events during the week to celebrate Book Week.

One of the activities we will be holding is a free second hand ‘BookGrab’ where students can come along and choose a book that has been donated by the school library or families. This will be held on Wednesday. If your family has any books you would like to donate, please drop these into the front office.

Thank you to the families who have already dropped off some wonderful books to be loved by someone else.

Another item on our book week agenda is a magic show at lunchtime. If your child has any special magic tricks or illusion show performances that they would like to share, please encourage them to get out their wand, cards or hats and start practising! Students will be coming around to classes the next couple of days with a sign-up sheet for those wishing to participate to sign up. All students are welcome to attend the magic show that will be taking place on Tuesday, next week.

We also have a fun range of Book Week activities that will be taking place during Lunchtime Club.
