YEAR 9 AND 10 HISTORY EXCURSIONS

On Wednesday and Thursday of the last week, the Stage 5 Mandatory History classes visited the Sydney Jewish Museum in Darlinghurst. They undertook the three hour Understanding the Holocaust program as part of their study of this topic in class this term. This involved a tour of the Museum by the volunteer guides in small groups; an enlightening presentation about the Holocaust from a Museum educator and a talk by a Holocaust survivor. This last part of the excursion is always a privilege for teachers and students to be a part of. The vivid descriptions of their experiences are powerful and moving. The St Pius X students engaged in all aspects of the excursion and were deservedly commended by the staff for their cooperation and respect.

Ouvrons Grand Les Jeux- The Games Wide Open

The last fortnight in the SRC was gold, gold, gold for Australia as we celebrated the Games of the 33rd Olympiad. Students joined in the spirit of the Paris Olympics by keeping up with daily medal tallies, watching event highlights on the big screen and entering the hotly contested Olympic Trivia competition.

Students and staff entered the draw, all striving for the ultimate prize- their very own piece of Olympic memorabilia, official Australian Olympic team mascot, BK the Boxing Kangaroo.

The winner and runners up were announced at Sports Assembly on Friday.

Congratulations to Gold, Silver and Bronze medallists; Oscar Kwiatkowski, Alfred Hu and Sebastian Dal Molin.

See you in LA in 4 years time…
